Charleston County Democratic Convention March 16!
County Conventions are the most local and grassroots organizing tool of the National Democratic Party. Charleston will hold ours on March 16 and all local Democrats are invited and encouraged to attend!
RSVP here to attend the County Convention!
Most importantly, we will seat the delegates to the County Convention who will then elect members of both our County Executive Committee and the Charleston County Delegates to the South Carolina State Democratic Convention.
The Executive Committee is the governing body of our County Party and those who are empowered to elect officers and vote on party business.
Use this form to run for Delegate and/or Executive Committee
Additionally we will elect Charleston County’s delegates to the State Democratic Convention who are the official participants in our Presidential Nominating process (you must be a county delegate to become a state delegate to possibly become a national delegate).
You are welcome and encouraged to attend even if you do not want to pursue those party leadership roles; all local Democrats may attend the convention as an observer. You’ll still be able to meet & hear from local Democratic candidates and learn about more ways to get involved with volunteering for our party!
PLEASE NOTE: There has been a location change from previous announcements. The County Convention will take place at Burke High School (244 President St. Charleston, SC 29403) on March 16 at 1pm.
Run for Office and Lead our Party!
As we gear up for the 2024 Election Year, it is critical for our party to have a full slate of candidates and volunteer leaders and we encourage all local Democrats to step up into these leadership roles.
The filing deadline to run for partisan offices in 2024 is April 1st at Noon. Every US Congressional and South Carolina State Legislative seat will up for election this year along with half of Charleston County Council and half of our County-wide offices. Learn more about the filing process here!
There are still several seats throughout Charleston County where we do not yet have an announced Democratic Candidate so please reach out to us if you are interested in becoming a Democratic Candidate (and then a Democratic elected official!) this year.
Our Charleston County Democratic Party also currently has several openings on its leadership team:
- 2nd Vice Chair (per party bylaws, this position must be held by a non-white individual because the current Chair is white).
- Secretary
- Alternate State Executive Committee Person (per party bylaws, this position must be held by a male because it is replacing one of the slots designated for a male).
These vacancies will be filled through appointment by our County Chair, Sam Skardon, with the approval of the County Executive Committee.
If you are interested in serving in our party leadership and/or running for office, please reach to us via email to discuss further!

Join the 2024 Swag Club!
Lets face it, elections are expensive. Even a local party spends thousands of dollars printing materials, running ads, sending mail, renting office space, and much more.
This year almost every local office in the Charleston area is on the ballot, so we’ll need extra help to run a strong Democratic ticket. That’s where you come in! We’re launching a program that will help you promote our candidates AND help us raise the money we need to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2024, our 2024 Swag Club.
If you sign up for a monthly recurring contribution of $20.24 per month for the rest of the year, each month we’ll send you an item that helps promote our Democratic candidates, including Biden/Harris shirts, yard signs, stickers, and pins! We’ll also include items from your local Democratic party and 2024 candidates!
It’s a fun way to help fund our critical general election efforts and distribute Democratic gear across Charleston County! Sign up by March 1 to receive the first item we send!
