Vote Smart, Vote Safe: 8 Resources to Protect Democracy
Voters gonna to vote!
Whatever our color, background or zip code, most of us believe that voters pick our leaders — our leaders do not get to pick their voters. When it comes to our elections, we want a transparent process we can trust, where Americans have equal freedom to vote, whether we live in a small town or big city, the south or the north. But today, a handful of extremist politicians put up barriers to silence our voices based on what we look like or where we live. Make sure your voice is heard so that our elections reflect the will of the people. Here are eight free voting resources.
Blue Voter Guide
The Blue Voter Guide helps you make quick, informed, pro-democracy choices of candidates and propositions. It shows what’s on your ballot, along with endorsements from trusted progressive organizations. It shows your ballot for all national offices, all statewide offices and ballot measures, and your state legislators as well as many down ballot races as well. The app uses data from a neutral, non-partisan not-for-profit organization focused on politics and policy, which exclusively relies on official information.
Field Team 6 created the Blue Voter Guide. Field Team 6 plans to reach out to millions of unregistered likely Democrats using our one-of-a-kind database and every outreach method possible (phone and text, postcard, email and targeted ad, and in-person too), where new Democratic voters will make the most impact – in the most flippable states and districts.

More voting resources

In most states, you must register before you can vote. Select your state from the drop down menu. Click here for a National Mail Voter Registration Form (need U.S. address).

Check your Voter Registration Status
Not sure if you’re already registered, or need to update your information? Select your state in the drop down menu to check. If you have questions about your voter registration status, contact your local election official.

Absentee and Early Voting
You may be eligible to vote prior to the election as an absentee or early voter. State laws vary greatly, so be sure to pay attention to the information provided by your election officials, or contact your local election office for help.

Check your Voter ID
Don’t wait to get ready to vote! VoteRiders can help you figure out what ID and documents you need to vote. We’re here to provide you with the practical, legal, and financial support to secure it.

Vote from abroad
FVAP encourages the use of the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to start the absentee voting process as it is standardized for use across all states and will extend your eligibility to receive a ballot for all federal elections for at least one calendar year. The FPCA acts as both a registration and absentee ballot request form.

Military voters
Each Service provides extensive voting assistance starting at the unit level. Assistance with any portion of the absentee voting process can be obtained by contacting your Installation Voter Assistance Office. Service-specific voting information can be found on the websites listed below or by contacting your Service Voting Action Officer.

Find your polling place
Many states offer online services that can help you look up your local voting site. Others list contact information for local election officials, who are trained to help you find your polling place. Select your place of residence in the drop down menu.
Vote to make the promise of our democracy real for us all
Certain politicians peddled electoral lies that fueled a deadly attack on our Capitol by armed right-wing militants. Having lost both the election and the attempt to undermine it, many of these same leaders have doubled-down on attempts to silence us by erecting new barriers to voting and thwarting attempts to make ours a true democracy. Compared to last year at this time, state legislators have introduced four times as many bills to restrict people’s basic right to vote. Together, we must fight back against these attacks and pass national standards to make the promise of our democracy real for us all. – ASO Communications
