Democracy Wins Big in Two Special Elections!

In two special elections yesterday, the people spoke. In Queens and Long Island citizens elected  Democrat Tom Suozzi to replace the disgraced Santos in the U.S. House. Then, in Bucks County, PA, Jim Prokopiak (D) won a critical State House seat race, meaning the Democrats will hold on to the majority. The hard work of grassroots organizations like ours made these wins possible.

We all know that in the coming months, citizen power is going to become more and more critical. We will need everyone’s help if we are going to win in November. We pledge to you that we will provide carefully curated actions that we believe will be the most effective in protecting and engaging voters. But for now, here are two actions that you can take immediately:

  • Write voter education postcards to PA voters to let them know they must apply annually to receive a mail-in ballot. Sign up here with Activate America.
  • Make calls to build a community of engaged voters in Mecklenburg County, NC. Join us to invite friendly Dems to a social event. You can call during the February 25th PowerHour (sign up here) or you can call on your own (contact Dana).

Keep checking the website for the latest action updates, and if you want to dive into each of our states check out the briefing sheets that give an overview of what is at stake in PennsylvaniaNew Hampshire, and North Carolina.

February Beneficiary
Voter Registration Groups in Mecklenburg County, NC

Lean Left is among 12 co-sponsors of a national fundraising event to provide early money to two voter registration groups in one key county in North Carolina. Lean Left has set a goal of raising $25,000, toward a national goal of $500,000!

Why are these groups important? They plan to reach tens of thousands of unregistered voters of color and young voters in Mecklenburg County. They will register them; they will make sure these voters have the information they need to cast their ballots; they will turn them out to vote. Our early money will ramp up field staff who can reach these potential voters now instead of five months down the road. It could be a statewide game-changer come November.

There are only two weeks left! Help us meet our goal by donating today.

If you have an hour or two. . . .

On February 25, we’ll be making calls every other Sunday at the Lean Left PowerHour, where you can get training and work together with other activists. This will be an hour (or two) out of your week when you can feel you are making a difference. Don’t like to make calls? Just come, see what it is like, and learn more.
