Sunday Phonebanks: Bring Chicago Home
Join the citywide Indivisible Chicago Alliance virtually to make phone calls for Bring Chicago Home! If Chicago votes YES in the Bring Chicago Home referendum this March, then the City Council can approve it and provide permanent housing & needed services to people experiencing homelessness. The revenue would come from a one-time tax on purchases of real estate going for $1million or more – a mansion tax.
Every Sunday from 4:00-7:00, we’re talking to fellow Chicagoans about the Bring Chicago Home referendum and why it’s important we VOTE YES to more housing in the upcoming March primary. Info/sign-up.

Before starting your phone calls on a remote dialer, you’ll get all the information and support you need on Zoom from friendly, patient Indivisible Chicago organizers, partnering with the Bring Chicago Home coalition. Get more information for the Sunday phonebanks and register here: Info/sign-up
Not free that day? You can sign up to phone bank with the Bring Chicago Home coalition every Tuesday and Thursday evening here.

From the Milwaukee Voter Project: The Milwaukee Voter Project is working to ensure that all Milwaukee citizens, especially those in underserved communities, are registered to vote and are aware of upcoming elections.

Training is simple — just a one-hour Zoom meeting. Upcoming training dates are this Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00 pm OR Friday, January 26 at 1:30 PM. If you’d like to attend one of these sessions, please email Laura Kushner at laurakushnerx2@gmail.com.

In Memoriam: Shasta Jones
We share our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and comrades of Shasta Jones, who was co-chair of the executive committee of CAARPR. Among many roles she held, Shasta Jones was a fierce organizer against police violence and helped usher in Chicago Empowering Communities for Public Safety ordinance for community control of Chicago police. We mourn Ms. Jones’s untimely passing.

Tell Your Alder to Support a Ceasefire Resolution
From Jewish Voice for Peace-Chicago: CALL YOUR ALDER TODAY! On Wednesday, January 24, the Chicago City Council has scheduled a vote on the resolution calling for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. Here’s the text of the resolution.
JVP-Chicago and allies have been organizing tirelessly to stop the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. If Chicago passes this resolution, it’ll be the biggest U.S. city yet to demand a permanent ceasefire.
Alders are under immense pressure from the pro-Israel lobby to not support this ceasefire resolution. Right now, we need to flood their offices with calls demanding that they stand on the right side of history by voting YES.
UPDATE: A group of alderpersons has proposed that the vote on this resolution be postponed. Jewish Voice for Peace-Chicago and If Not Now-Chicago respond: “We stand against the horrific and cynical misuse of Holocaust memory by some members of Chicago City Council to delay the upcoming vote on a #CeasefireNow resolution. The memory of the Shoah compels us to say Never Again for anyone.” See JVP-Chicago’s full statement here.
ACT: Go to the JVP-Chicago form for more information on contacting your alder.  JVP-Chicago ceasefire phone form
ADDITION: When you call your alder, please tell them to refuse to delay the vote. Find your alder here.
