We Hope Your New Year Started with Hope and Cheer!

Our New Year starts in conversation with Guardian journalist, former Public Editor of The New York Times, media critic, and author of Newsroom ConfidentialMargaret Sullivan. On January 24, at 7 pm ET, Ms. Sullivan joins us to discuss her experiences in media and what we can do to advocate for Truth and Democracy in journalism, prior to the November elections (FREE). Sign up here.

Disappointed or outraged that disinformation, misinformation, and media malpractice may devastate democracy? Want to become a media activist? Join us at our next meeting TODAY, Monday, January 8 at 7 pm ET. Sign up here

At tomorrow’s meeting we will be voting for a “Bright Spot in Journalism.” The nominees for the Bright Spot Award are:

The Baltimore Banner: Their mission: “To be an indispensable resource that strengthens, unites and inspires our Baltimore community.”
THE CITY: THE CITY is a digital publication that covers New York. Their mission is to “hold the powerful to account, deepen democratic participation, and help make sense of the greatest city in the world.”
The Texas Observer: The Texas Observer has been observing goings on in Texas since 1954. They nearly closed in 2023 but the community pulled together to rescue them.

Please READ and SHARE: Nina Burleigh wrote a brilliant article on the harms and challenges of Fox propaganda titled “Biden’s Other Formidable Opponent in 2024” in The New Republic. In the article MAD and other prominent media folk discuss the history and danger to democracy that Murdoch’s Fox represents.

As always, please sign on to the Media and Democracy Project letter to the FCC, in support of our Petition to Deny a broadcast license to FOX for WTXF29 Philadelphia.
