2024: The Road Ahead Starts Now

Welcome to 2024 and the continuing fight for democracy, freedom and progressive values reflected by our local, state and federal governments.

Our electoral goals are simple: 1) winning back the US House majority, 2) retaining a Senate majority and the White House, 3) re-establishing the Blue Trifecta to forestall the rise of fascist forces and take up the unfinished business of 2020 to reflect the will of the people for everything from voting rights to access to healthcare and child care.

The fight begins right here in California, where the House majority will depend on the outcome in six key districts: five seats currently held by MAGA Republicans in districts carried by President Biden in 2020, and one open seat in a very competitive district currently represented by Katie Porter. Win them all and Hakeem Jeffries would become our new Speaker. You can learn more about the districts here.

Bringing it a bit closer to home, two of the six districts are (relatively) nearby and Indivisible Yolo will be actively working with our partners at the Bay Area Coalition to flip both Central Valley districts: CA-13 (Merced, Madera and parts of Modesto and Turlock) and CA-22 (Hanford, Delano, parts of Bakersfield and Tulare).

With the primary election (March 5) voting starting in early February the race is on to get as many new voters registered as possible.  Both districts are far below the statewide average for percentage of eligible voters that are registered.  If you can, join our voter registration efforts already underway.  Expanding the voter pool is the first step – and the most urgent need at present. Of course, getting our voters to the polls (GOTV), while important even in the primary, will be absolutely critical in the November general election.

And we already know the primary outcome in the US House race in CA-13: there are only two candidates on the ballot,  Adam Gray (D) and incumbent, John Duarte (R).  Canvassing and voter registration events are already on the calendar – and phone banks are as well.  Look for more in the coming weeks and be sure to bookmark the Indivisible Yolo link tree for access to the latest info.

This essential federal election work will be front and center for us in 2024.  We will shift our activities to electoral work (including the Woodland School Board Recall) and resume our efforts to advocate for progressive change after we see victory in November.

Yes, this year will surely give us all ample opportunities to “Do More in ‘24”.

Contact your Senator: Reject Trump-Era Immigration Policies

For months, Senators have been negotiating over what’s called the “supplemental” funding package — additional money the Biden administration requested from Congress to respond to crises around the world. Republicans are playing brazen, dangerous hardball in order to force Trump-era immigration policies in exchange for support for Ukraine, and Democrats are considering caving to their demands.

They haven’t reached a deal yet, but the policies on the table are nothing short of breath-taking: an end to asylum for everyone except the small number of folks who can afford to buy a flight into the U.S., mass deportation — nationwide — without a hearing, and a dramatic increase in the incarceration of asylum-seekers, including families, and a restart to Trump’s signature Title 42 policy.

These policies would be dangerous and harmful enough on their own. But we’re heading into a tough election year with Trump and Trump-acolytes threatening to take back power, we cannot hand them even more tools to inflict their cruel agenda on vulnerable people.

Call your Senator now and tell them to say no to MAGA immigration policies.

Recall MacDonald Campaign update

We have a new update from our friends at the Recall MacDonald campaign!

The Recall MacDonald campaign is gearing up again to work on getting out the vote for Woodland’s WJUSD area 2 recall of the anti-trans school board member Emily MacDonald. After months of work we have qualified for the March 5th primary ballot. That was accomplished with a ton of hard work, often by Indivisible Yolo members (THANK YOU!). However, to keep all that hard work from being for nothing we now have to go back to voters and remind them what it is we want them to vote YES on! We will be starting to canvass again next weekend. Please see the signup link below. We are also doing a recall supporter photo for Woodland residents (or parents with kids in WJUSD) only. This will be used in mailers and online campaigning. That will happen January 13th. Please sign up for that on the link below as well. Location will be announced closer to that date and sent to people who have signed up. https://signup.com/go/HBseiaJ

Meet the Candidates series

The road to the House majority runs through California

We have the power, right here in California, to take the Speaker’s gavel out of GOP hands by mobilizing grassroots volunteers statewide. We can do the work to sweep six key seats—five flips and one hold—and stop destructive MAGA stunts. Our state can put Congress back on the path to governing.

The MEET THE CANDIDATE interviews are the first events co-hosted by the brand new California Grassroots Alliance, formed to offer Indivisible and other grassroots volunteers focused six-district strategy, effective tools, and fresh intel. Following each lively 45-minute candidate interview, Indivisible Sonoma County’s Tom Benthin will facilitate a wide-ranging participant discussion about the target district, the candidates, and the election outlook for re-taking the House via California victories.

Bring a friend, list your questions, and get ready to activate!
