Letter from the Chair

Dear Friends and Allies,

Happy Blue New Year! I hope you will join me on November 6 to celebrate a gorgeous Arizona Blue Wave, knowing you did everything in your power to make it so.

The Coconino County Democratic office is reorganized where we remain diligent and

motivated to make the 2024 Presidential Election a huge success in Coconino County,

Arizona, and the Nation. I know that all of you are focused on the work to elect more

Democrats and save our Democracy, and I deeply appreciate your strong support.

The Winter Party was a huge success, raising nearly $3,000 in one night! If you missed it, it’s not too late to make a one-time gift or to become a Monthly Donor.

Your donations fuel our work in this critically important Election Year.

We’ll be running elections for new Precinct Committeepersons this spring. If you were

appointed, please consider running for election. If you’ve never been a PC, now is the

time to step up to this critical role. PCs are the foundation of the Democratic Party,

supporting our work at the grassroots level.

Learn more about it and many other opportunities at our January 13th Action Meeting.

There’s much work to do, so please join us in whatever capacity suits your talents, time, and treasure. Working with our community to defend Democracy is hard fun!

ï‚· attend our Monthly Action meetings on the second Saturday of the month, at the

Murdoch Center

ï‚· write postcards

There will be many distractions, unfavorable polls, and GOP shenanigans threatening

our resilience in this new year. Working together will assuage our fears, bolster our

courage, and strengthen our resolve to win big on November 5th.

I’m so proud and grateful to be among you as we face an unprecedented threat to our Democracy, and I am confident that we will come out of it stronger and more united.

We can do hard things, we must.

Gratefully,

Laura

The Honorable Sarah Benatar, Coconino County Treasurer

Our mission is to elect more Democrats – and that includes highlighting the accomplishments and contributions of those we have already elected.

One local example, someone we are proud of and grateful to, is our Coconino County Treasurer, The Honorable Sarah Benatar.

Sarah has been providing leadership to all county officials in the state for the past year, as President of the Arizona Association of Counties. In July 2023 she testified before a U.S. Congressional committee on finances, climate and environmental risks, and the dangers of anti-ESG legislation. She’s also contributed vision and leadership to the National Association of Hispanic County Officials (President), and has been elected as a board member and officer of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). All of this, in addition to managing our County’s finances with integrity and excellence!

Sarah is a wonderful example of why elections matter – smart, dedicated officials with strong personal and public values make a difference.

Thank you, Sarah – we look forward to seeing what you do in the coming year.

Arizona for Abortion Access Ballot Initiative

The Coconino County Democrats office is your local petition hub. We have the Arizona for Abortion Access (AAA) ballot initiative petitions available and ready for circulation.

The AAA Campaign requires that all petition circulators must first complete an official petition circulator training. Right now there are online trainings available by registering with Healthcare Rising and/ or Arizona’s List. The Coconino Democratic Party and Indivisible NAZ is hosting a monthly in-person training. The next in-person training will be at 11am, January 20, 2023 at the Ice House. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP here.

*Please note you must provide your training date information to check out any petitions from the Flagstaff Hub.

Check out Arizona’s ListHealthcare Rising, our website calendar & our Mobilize page for news, updates, and training information.

  • You can stop by on Mondays between 11AM-1PM and Fridays from 1PM-3PM to pick up petitions.
  • Get your petitions notarized at the office same days, Mondays between 11AM-1PM and Fridays from 1pm-3pm.
  • We are looking for volunteers to add locations and hours to notarize petitions.
  • If you are a notary and would like to volunteer services, please email us.

Getting this initiative onto the 2024 ballot will be key to turning out the vote and wining all races from re-electing Biden to flipping our legislature.
