Support the ACA, register new voters, safeguard the National Human Trafficking Hotline and more!

DEC 5

  • VOICE YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE ACA (OBAMACARE)After Congressional Republicans failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act in the first year of the Trump Administration, they astutely took it off their agenda. Now both Trump and DeSantis are making campaign promises to repeal the law which insures more than 40 million Americans, and has gotten even more popular since 2017Let’s remind our MoCs of this fact, particularly if they are Republicans and tell them we do not want them to touch Obamacare regardless of who wins the presidential election in 2024.
  • REGISTER NEW VOTERS FOR SPECIAL ELECTION TO REPLACE GEORGE SANTOSNow that George Santos has finally been expelled from Congress for numerous ethics violations, we can work to make sure that he’s replaced by someone who better reflects the district’s values by registering new voters before the special election, especially high school students who are just turning 18. This post from the Civics Center explains this very easy process. Let’s distribute it widely to our friends and networks and ask people to send direct messages to their friends and family in NY Congressional District 3 (northeastern Queens and parts of Nassau County Long Island).

  • LEARN HOW TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST EXTREMIST SCHOOL BOARD TAKEOVERSIf we are ready to fight back against extremist takeovers of our local school boards, Red, Wine and Blue is ready to help. We can click here to get their parents’ handbook which covers organizing groups in our communities, using social media to get our messages out, speaking up effectively at school board meetings, and even running for school board.

  • SAFEGUARD THE NATIONAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING HOTLINEThe National Human Trafficking Hotline Enhancement Act, a Republican-introduced bill, would require the Hotline, which is relied on by victims to escape their dire situations, to turn over information to law enforcement without the victim’s consent. Polaris, the organization that runs the Hotline, opposes the bill. The bill is also opposed by anti-trafficking organizations, like Freedom Network USA , the National Survivor Network, and NC Stop Human TraffickingLet’s tell our US Representatives that survivors of human trafficking need to trust that the National Human Trafficking Hotline works for them, not for law enforcement, and if the Hotline becomes a tool of law enforcement, survivors will not use it to seek help. We therefore want them to oppose  H.R.2601. (h/t Jewish Women International)
