New restrictions on Viagra announced

What would happen if pale, male, stale Republicans had to follow the same laws they impose on women?

What would abortion restrictions applied to Viagra for rich old white Republicans with erectile dysfunction look like? Judge for yourself with this interactive infographic. Click on any image for more details.

Imagine the outrage if these Republicans had to wait for days before getting their Viagra. Not being able to get it by mail. Being forced to undergo a medical exam first. Having to pay for it out of pocket rather than paid for by their insurance provider.

This is especially timely with elections in Virginia and Ohio underway where Republicans are pushing for even harsher abortion bans. Fight the Republican war on women.

Glenn Youngkin Says His Abortion ‘Limit’ Isn’t a Ban. Virginia GOP Candidates Say Otherwise.

Republicans across the country continue to do backflips to try to make their unpopular abortion bans seem less bad: They keep lying about ballot measures … Virginia is no exception, and the November 7 elections will determine the fate of abortion access in the state. Youngkin has insisted—and spent $1.4 million to say as much—that his 15-week abortion ban is a “limit” and not a ban, his Republican colleagues running for state House and Senate have been undermining his rhetorical gymnastics. – Jezebel

Delegate Jason Ballard (HD-42) is running for re-election in House District 42. His own website says: “Through increased funding for pregnancy centers that encourage life and a 15-week abortion ban, Jason will always support legislation that will protect society’s voiceless.”

Delegate Terry Kilgore (HD-45) – is the House Majority Leader, is running for re-election in House District 45. In January, Kilgore told WHJL News Channel 11: “I’ve always been pro-life, so I think whatever the ban Governor Youngkin comes along with, I’m going to support. But it’s going to be somewhere around 15 weeks, 12 to 15 weeks.”

Glen Sturtevant (SD-12) is running in Senate District 12. Sturtevant told the Richmond Times-Dispatch in July: “I am 100% pro-life and I support Gov. Youngkin’s bill that would ban abortions after 15 weeks.”

Doublespeak

“Doublespeak is language that pretends to communicate but really doesn’t. It is language that makes the bad seem good, the negative appear positive, the unpleasant appear attractive or at least tolerable. Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its real meaning. It is language that conceals or prevents thought; rather than extending thought, doublespeak limits it

The power of doublespeak is that it allows the speaker to disavow or deny that a concept has negative traits or connotations. While it may not involve blatant lies, doublespeak may be deceptive if the listener is not fully aware of what meanings or connotations it is masking. Most problematically, after hearing the term repeated and re-used over time, the listener may become inured to these other connotations. – Open Speak

Republicans claiming to be against bans while pushing for an abortion limit is an example of doublespeak. An abortion ban is a ban no matter how you disguise it. Ask them if the y would support the restrictions on Viagra as they force on women looking for reproductive healthcare?

In 2023 all 140 seats in the Virginia General Assembly are up for election (100 House and 40 Senate). Virginia is the only Southern state where abortion is still safe and legal. Not only is reproductive freedom on the line but we are now fighting to preserve the hard-won voting rights. Donations expand campaigns in communities of color in target areas. Center for Common Ground is a 501(c) 3 organization, and donations are tax deductible.

TakeAway: Don’t fall for Republican doublespeak. Vote for Democrats to protect women’s rights to reproductive healthcare in Virginia and beyond.
