The Friday Power Lunch started with LUISA BOYARSKI (Director, Virginia Grassroots Coalition) who delivered her grassroots update with a special focus on early voting. She told us about the early voting happy hours being planned around the state and discussed vote by mail.

Early Voting Happy Hours – September 22

  • Loudoun (4pm) “I VOTED Early Happy Hour” Come join us to early vote at the Loudoun Board of Elections Office, Leesburg (750 Miller Dr SE Suite C, Leesburg, VA 20175) at 4:00pm and then head over to a restaurant in Leesburg.

CHELSEA BLANC (President of the Metropolitan DC Chapter of Coalition of Labor Union Women) discussed the history of women in the labor movement and then played a game with the audience to guess the name of women founders and current leaders of labor organizations.

Members of the Washington Mid-Atlantic Local of SAG-AFTRA explained the issues behind the strike with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) over a new contract to address how streaming services and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have negatively affected how they are compensated for their work. We learned that 88% of people under 30 approve of unions.
