STAY WOKE FLORIDA

June 18-23 2023
Florida has become ground zero for suppressing democratic principles, ideas and academic freedom. Over the past months, Florida has passed or introduced legislation that has resulted in banning books focused on inclusion education; divested state funds from schools that practice principles of diversity, equity and inclusion; and has criminalized teaching of American History.
Many national organizations are teaming up with Florida local organizations to fight against the assault on democracy that is occurring in Florida. The combined team is planning a “Rolling Protest” throughout State of Florida to highlight our concerns and demand action. The “Rolling Protest” is designed to be one of many actions taken in the State of Florida to raise awareness and encourage the communities in Florida to stand up and fight back against the suppressive actions taken by Governor DeSantis and the State Legislature.

A New Ballot Measure for 2024: The Constitutional Right to Abortion Access

Ed Note: This issue is included again this week and will continue to be included in some form until abortion rights are on the Florida ballot.
As you may have seen in the news, the Florida reproductive rights movement is launching a ballot initiative campaign to protect access to abortion and ensure our personal medical decisions are ours and ours alone to make.
Time and time again, our state government has chosen to ignore the will of Floridians by passing increasingly restrictive laws to limit access to abortion.
Extremist legislators have done this despite polling — and election results — that have shown the majority of Florida voters support access to abortion. With this ballot initiative, Floridians will reclaim our right to control our medical decisions, our lives, and our futures.
To get on the ballot, more than 900,000 petition forms will need to be completed by Florida voters and the ballots must be from all parts of Florida. This is being organized by a new coalition “Floridians Protect Freedom” (FPF).
Instructions and training are available at the FPF web site.
Both Pinellas County Democratic Party offices will be Petitions Collection Hubs for FPF — both offices will be places to pick up blank petition forms and deliver completed ones.
Petition Hubs are located at:
