First Amendment Upheld in Coconino County

The injunction that Wendy Rogers filed against the Capitol Times reporter, Camryn Sanchez, was overturned last week by Flagstaff Justice of the Peace, Howard Grodman.  This was a win for the First Amendment and investigative reporting which is a vital component of a healthy democracy.  Also, it appears from the reporter’s testimony, that Wendy Rogers lives in Tempe and not Flagstaff!  Read more about the story from the Arizona Agenda Substack here.

Latino Voter Research Findings

Thank you to Dr. Stephen Nuño-Perez for presenting at our May Monthly Action Meeting on his analysis of Hispanic voter attitudes on a host of issues.  In a survey taken in the fall of 2022, Dr. Nuño-Perez noted that the top 4 issues among Hispanic voters were: cost of living/inflation, abortion access, mass shootings and gun safety policy & wages/jobs.  See the breakdown below.  Dr. Nuño-Perez noted that the Hispanic population skews much younger than the population of Arizona as a whole.  We look forward to supporting this work and the prospect of future collaborations.

The shortage of buildable land in and around Flagstaff has caught up to the needs of the community, bringing a tough decision before Flagstaff City Council. Here’s what I wrote to Flagstaff Mayor and Council: continue reading here.

Flagstaff City Council will voting for or against the hospital move at the Tuesday May 16 council meeting.  A required second vote if approved will happen at a future council meeting. Send your email comments to all council members and the mayor at Council@Flagstaffaz.gov.
