RSVP for the General Meeting next week
Get ready for our next Indivisible Yolo General meeting next Monday, February 27th 7-8:30pm online.
Kick-off 2023 with Indivisible Yolo where progressive action doesn’t end on election day.
We’ll be highlighting some recent successes and introducing our biennial calendar and each of our advocacy action teams – local, state and federal.
And, we’ll be engaged in a bit of participatory democracy ourselves with a vote on a potential endorsement in Davis City Council District 3.
RSVP here for all the details: https://www.mobilize.us/indivisibleyolo/event/551838/
And read on for example call scripts for this week’s action. Once again, we’re calling about the debt ceiling. For anyone whose representative is Mike Thompson, unfortunately he’s a weak link against MAGA extremists. He’s a member of the Blue Dog Coalition (the most conservative Democrats in the House). Most of his fellow Blue Dog members are gladly adopting MAGA talking points on the debt ceiling and joining with Republicans to demand “negotiations” to cut the social safety net. Republican threats to crash the economy and ruin the credit of the United States unless we cut services should be met with unwavering resistance. We want Rep. Thompson to tell the rest of the Blue Dogs to stop rolling over for MAGA extremists.
(For an in-depth look at the debt ceiling issue, here’s Indivisible National’s guide: https://indivisible.org/resource/legislative-process-101-debt-ceiling).

Our next Indivisible Yolo General Meeting is Monday, February 27th, 7-8:30pm.

Call script- To our Members of Congress: don’t negotiate with MAGA hostage-takers- raise the debt ceiling now
California’s 2 Senators:
- Sen. Feinstein: 415-393-0707 (SF) 202-224-3841 (D.C) (email)
- Sen. Padilla: 916-448–2787 (Sacramento) 202-224-3553 (D.C.) (email)
A lot of Indivisible Yolo members have a new representative! You can find out whether your representative is Rep. Mike Thompson or Rep. Doris Matsui here.
- Rep. Thompson (530) 753-5301 (Woodland) (202) 225-3311 (D.C) (email)
- Rep. Matsui (916) 498-5600 (Sacramento) (202) 225-7163 (D.C.) (email)
Example call script (your own words are best!):
Hi, my name is [your name] and my zip code is [zip code]. I’m a voter and a constituent of [Sen. Feinstein/Sen. Padilla/Rep. Matsui] and I am asking the [Senator/Representative] to demand their Republican colleagues lift the debt ceiling now, without conditions. MAGA extremists are taking the economy hostage and using it to try to force cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and more. Will the [Senator/Representative] commit to demanding a clean debt ceiling increase without giving an inch to the MAGA hostage-takers?
Special call for Rep. Thompson: tell your fellow Blue Dogs not to roll over for MAGA hostage-takers (thanks to Indivisible Sonoma for the call to action):
Hi, my name is [your name] and my zip code is [zip code]. I’m a voter and a constituent of Rep. Thompson. The debt ceiling must be lifted without conditions by the Republican House. But all but one other member of the Congressman’s Blue Dog Coalition are undermining the president’s correct refusal to negotiate. We need Democrats to provide a united front. While I appreciate the Congressman’s refusal to join his fellow Blue Dogs in their dangerous breaking of ranks, I’d like to ask him to do more: please tell the other “Blue Dogs” to stop rolling over for MAGA extremists. Thank you.

State Strong Yolo meeting- Wednesday Feb. 22, 7-8:30pm
