Republican War On Women

DeSantis leads Republican war on women with harsh new proposals.

Women forced to share their menstrual cycle details. Denied abortion in the event of rape or incest. Denied equal pay. Denied childcare.

“Florida athletes may soon be required to submit their menstrual history to schools. A proposed draft of a physical education form in Florida could require all high school student athletes to disclose information regarding their menstrual history — a move that’s already drawing pushback from opponents who say the measure would harm students.” – Miami Herald

Republicans vote for domestic abusers

“According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the presence of a gun in domestic violence situations can increase the risk of homicide for women as much as 500%. In addition, abusers with firearms are five times more likely to kill their victims given the easy access to a deadly weapon. In fact, a 2019 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found women killed by intimate partners are more likely to be murdered with a firearm than by all other means combined.

172 Republicans chose ensuring that a man — even one convicted of stalking or assault — can buy a gun over protecting women from gun violence. What more will it take for these Republicans to put the safety of women first? – CNN

Blocking women from traveling to get an abortion

Senate Republicans blocked a Democratic bill Thursday that would protect the rights of women to travel to other states to access abortion care legally. Cortez Masto said in a statement, “Anti-choice state legislators in Missouri, Texas, and Arkansas have said they want to pass bills to fine or prosecute women who travel for health care.” – NBC

Republicans vote against equal pay for women

The Paycheck Fairness Act, officially titled H.R. 7, would bolster the Equal Pay Act of 1963, which prohibits employers from paying unequal wages to men and women if both are performing the same work.  The new bill aims to protect employees from being penalized by employers for discussing their salaries. It would also require employers to demonstrate that any inequity in pay among employees is not gender-based, but related to the nature of the job performed. – American Independent

Republicans Attack Child Care Funding

Republicans are going to war over one of the most popular proposals Democrats are seeking to enshrine into law: a new federal program that could help millions of families get affordable child care for the first time. According to a recent Hart Research poll, nearly 70% of voters, including a majority of Republicans, want Congress to prioritize providing affordable child care this year. – HuffPost
