CCDP: Happy Holidays!

8 mins read

The Charleston County Democratic Party wishes you peace and joy this holiday season!

Come March in the Emancipation Proclamation Day Parade!

The Charleston County Democratic Party is looking for volunteers to march in the annual Charleston Emancipation Proclamation Day Parade on Sunday January 1st. The Parade begins at 2:00 pm, but organizers are asking marchers to line up at 11:30 am at Burke High School. CCDP will march to the International African American Museum (near the Aquarium). Please respond to the Mobilize link below to march in the Parade.

You encouraged to come and watch the Parade from the side of the road if you are unable to march with CCDP.

Charleston’s Emancipation Parade is a tradition dating back to 1866 and celebrates the signing of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation to “forever free all slaves in southern states”. The Parade is part of a series of annual events that celebrates the region’s African American heritage and history, and Democrats are encouraged to march with CCDP and enjoy the day’s festivities.

We are continuing to highlight local charities you can support this holiday season (and afterward). Whether you are donating time or money, these local charities would appreciate your assistance:

Project Street Outreach

Project Street Outreach provides homeless Veterans with essential necessities (food, clothes, sleeping bags, etc), and is in need of donations and volunteers. Donations of new or gently used clothing and living necessities are welcome alongside financial contributions, and volunteers are needed to distribute food and clothes, to organize clothing and donated goods, and to help with other administrative needs.
