Help identify the real killer behind mass shootings

51 dead and 173 injured in gun violence in Nov 2022. Can you spot the real killer?

Start with the crime scene, as any good detective would. What are the local laws about having a gun there? What motivated the shooter (such as hate speech against LGBTQ community)? What role did money have in the shooting incident? This could be in different forms – political donations to relax gun laws, advertising fees to promote the gun for sale.

  • Who did the shooting? What weapon did they use? How did they get the weapon?
  • Who profited from selling the gun? Who profited from advertising the gun?
  • Which politician got donations to allow the gun sales to continue and block safety measures?
  • Who defined the laws to get more guns without background checks?

Republicans use filibuster to block gun safety reforms

President Biden said he was “going to try to get rid of assault weapons” during the lame-duck session of Congress this year following a recent string of mass shootings, but such a proposal would need 10 Republican votes to break the legislative filibuster. Biden helped pass a decade-long assault weapons ban in 1994 as a senator. He made the renewed push for the proposal following mass shootings at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colo., and a Walmart in Chesapeake, Va.

“If you look at some of the most high-profile mass shootings in the last couple of years, many of those mass shooters bought the weapon just days before carrying out the crime,” Murphy said on CNN. “And so if those weapons were no longer commercially available, only in possession of those who had bought them previously, I think a lot of mass shootings would have been prevented.”

Senator Murphy doubts that the bill could garner 60 votes. “But let’s see if we can try to get that number as close to 60 as possible,” Murphy continued. “If we don’t have the votes, then we’ll talk to Senator Schumer and maybe come back next year with maybe an additional senator and see if we can do better.” – Yahoo

Mapping the crime scenes and Republicans close to gun lobby

This map was created with ArcGIS Online using November 2022 shootings details from the Gun Violence Archive. Each dot represents a shooting incident along with the time, location, the number who of people killed and injured. The size of the dot is proportional to the number of casualties. The map also shows the senator and governor for the state who are paid with tax payer money to represent the well being of their constituents – not their gun lobby donors.
