TRUE BLUE 22
#TrueBlue22 was the theme as many democrats from across the state met in Columbus, GA for the Democratic Party of Georgia (DPG) state convention. Attending this convention along with myself was Lara Parker, Second Vice Chair, Kai Oden, Secretary, and Mallory Minor serving as your elected delegates. (alternate Angela Wiley was on hand to serve)We were all very excited to represent Rockdale County Democatic Committee and serve as part of the voting body in conducting the business of the DPG. In addition, we also participated on selected state committees and met with other delegates within the 4th Congressional district and those throughout the state of Georgia. Additionally, it is my pleasure to serve on the DPG Platform Committee which is now a Standing Committee. This Standing Committee will be meeting throughout the year working to provide to the DPG a final proposed platform for adoption. In the interim, as a reporting from the Co-Chairs, the following draft platform was presented to include the following planks: —
- Economic Security
- Natural resources
- Public Safety
- Integrity In Government
- Voting Rights
DPG Chair Nikema Williams and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens opened the conference and led the charge of getting us Fired Up!
The convention then proceeded with messages from congressional leaders including a video message from our own Congressman Hank Johnson of the 4th Congressional district. Other state and local leaders joined him from across the state in welcoming us to the convention.
We were further energized to hear from US Senator Raphael Warnock with his message of “send him back for six more years and let’s get it done.” Also, the historic and diverse slate of the top state democratic candidates greeted the audience with messages of a new Georgia culminating with Stacey Abrams who took the stage and for thirty minutes rallied the crowd and delivered the message of “Georgia, let’s take our Power back!” #OneGeorgia
Other highlighted issues throughout the conference was Abortion Rights and Reproductive Freedom which included a video message from Cecile Richards, former President of Planned Parenthood.
Overall, the one resounding theme delivered to us all — Let’s Fight For Democracy!
The future of our state is in our hands. Georgia is a battleground state, let’s get this done and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.
Yours in Blue Solidarity,
Chair, Rockdale County Democratic Committee
