Dear Friends,

August 26, the anniversary of the certification of the 19th amendment, is often known as Women’s Equality Day. Yet with our voting and reproductive rights under attack, women today have fewer rights than we’ve had in decades. The ERA Coalition and the League of Women Voters are partnering to observe Women’s Inequality Day and call on our leaders to protect our freedoms by: passing voting rights legislation, adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution and restoring reproductive freedoms for all. More information and a toolkit here.

There is much work going on with the Virginia Grassroots and others in our battle to save democracy. Please join us in our working groups, Dahlia Lithwick and Lis Frost on the Friday Power Lunch and one or more of the Canvasses for Democracy.*

PS –  Watch for announcements of events happening in September in Thursday’s BADASS Briefing.

Friday Power Lunch

Ladies for Justice Speak

August 26, 2022, NOON ET

On this week’s Friday Power Lunch we will discuss the Battle to Save Democracy from the grips of those who are striking daily with laws to restrict women’s rights, voting rights, freedom, and equality under the law with two experts on law and the courts.

Dahlia Lithwick, senior editor at Slate covering the law and Supreme Court and host of the extremely popular podcast Amicus, will talk to us about the state of the Supreme Court, the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling, and what we can expect from the court moving forward.

Lis Frost (Litigation Chair & Partner at Elias Law Group) will share what it was like litigating and winning every bogus election fraud case by the Trump campaign and her firm’s effort to fight voter suppression and gerrymandering in courtrooms around the country.”

Together these esteemed ladies of justice will give us an inside view to the shenanigans and challenges we face defending equality and justice.

It is fitting we have this conversation this week, as Friday is Women’s Equality Day honoring the 102nd anniversary of the 19th Amendment that secured women the right to vote.

See you on Friday as we discuss the battle we face to Save our Democracy.
