Election Day, November 8, 2022
“If you want a better government, you have to actively get yourself engaged in creating it. And that you do through democratic politics if you want it to be a democracy.” Larry Kramer, former Dean of Stanford Law School
Ezra Klein Podcast, “Liberals Need a Clearer Vision of the Constitution.
Here’s What It Could Look Like.”
“Crossing state lines to commit democracy.” What is happening with abortion access in NC? How close are Republicans to a supermajority (hint: they need two seats in the Senate and one seat in the House to override Gov Cooper’s veto)? Will Dems hold onto their one-seat majority on the State Supreme Court with two Dem justices up for re-election this year? What is happening with the open U.S. Senate seat?

According to Wisconsin Public Radio, “Wisconsinites have the weight of the nation’s problems on their minds heading into the 2022 midterm elections. . . .” Gerrymandering, conspiracy theories, election officials’ lives threaten, the banning of nearly all drop boxes, the GOP legislature aiming to take over election administration — all of this and more mean Wisconsin voters face enormous challenges come November. Fortunately, the WisDems have a strong voter protection team. If you are interested in voter protection in Wisconsin, there are several ways to get involved.
- Contact Lean Left’s Wisconsin Organizer Ann Smith, a WisDems Super Vol team member, to learn how to get involved.
Up-ballot, down-ballot, it is all at stake in New Hampshire. Let’s cross the river and talk to our neighbors. Canvas organizing is happening on the western side of New Hampshire in Littleton, Keene, and Lebanon. From now until November, we have an opportunity to talk with voters and help Granite Staters strengthen democracy both for their state and the nation!
- Sign up here to let us know you are interested in canvassing, and we’ll be back in touch with details.
Changing rules and outright efforts to confuse or intimidate voters make voting harder. Voter assistance hotlines are critical to answering voters’ questions about how, when, and where to vote. In 2020, the PA Dems ran the busiest hotline in the country. In the last couple of months of the election, many hundreds of voters called daily. Being a hotline operator requires a commitment to learning material and new technology, but it is one of the most rewarding things you can do!
- Join the PA Voter Protection Team and sign up for the Voter Assistance Hotline training on Aug 18.

Defending Democracy in Wisconsin
This month we return to America’s favorite battleground, Wisconsin, where the state GOP is still trying to overturn the 2020 election. If we want anything like sanity in a state that can decide our national elections, we need to reelect Tony Evers and stop the GOP from getting a veto-proof majority.
This month, we’re supporting Evers and two fragile incumbents in the state legislature, who can make sure we can protect democracy and free elections. The Evers race has flown under the radar for many Democrats, but it’s arguably the most consequential governor’s race–and the most underfunded–of the 2022 election.
