Sixty-five Groups Representing over 180K Grassroots Volunteers Ask Democratic Party to Offer Commitment to American People Ahead of Midterms
Today, sixty five advocacy and electoral groups representing over 180,000 Democrats active in “get out the vote” efforts, publicly released a letter which they sent yesterday to the respective Chairs of the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The letter asks for Party leaders to “offer a straightforward, comprehensive commitment to the American people contingent upon maintaining the House majority and increasing the Senate majority by at least two seats. “
In the letter, the groups provide for the committees’ consideration a draft of such an agreement with a working name of “The Blue Deal to Improve American Lives.”
“We strongly urge you to swiftly issue and widely promote an agreement of this nature so that Americans can clearly see the stark contrast in their choices this November, as well as the urgency of this critical juncture in our nation’s history,” the groups state.

Dear Chairpersons Harrison, Peters and Maloney,
We, the 65 undersigned advocacy and electoral groups representing over 180,000 Democrats involved in grassroots organizing to help get out the vote for the November midterms, are writing with concern regarding the clarity of our messaging as we approach the November midterms in just over three short months.
We believe that Democrats should offer a straightforward, comprehensive commitment to the American people contingent upon maintaining the House majority and increasing the Senate majority by at least two seats.
We offer for your consideration a draft of such an agreement with a working name of “The Blue Deal to Improve American Lives.”
We strongly urge you to swiftly issue and widely promote an agreement of this nature so that Americans can clearly see the stark contrast in their choices this November, as well as the urgency of this critical juncture in our nation’s history.
Sincerely,

Dear Americans,
Our country is at a crucial crossroads. You, the American people, will choose in November which path we take.
The Republican Party, now led by MAGA extremists, wants to control you. They want the government and politicians involved in every aspect of your personal life from your health care decisions, to whom you can marry, to what you can read and say. They want to overturn and override the will of the people, to rule only for the wealthy few.
The Democratic Party is working for you. We are fighting corporate greed to bring down prices and making the economy work better for middle- and working-class families. We are providing access to a broader range of health care needs including mental health and addiction treatment options. We are taking action to slow climate change and improve our nation’s infrastructure. And we are fighting to maintain free and fair elections to ensure that those who represent Americans govern in our name and act in our interest.
Thanks to your incredible efforts turning out in record numbers, America has come so far in the last two years: record job growth, hundreds of millions of Americans receiving life saving vaccines, and over $1.2 trillion in infrastructure spending in every state in the country. Still, there is much more to do.
We fell short in passing much of our intended agenda in 2021 and 2022. Why? Because of a razor-slim Senate majority, fierce opposition from MAGA Republicans determined to block the will of the majority of Americans, and a flood of money spent by corporate lobbyists defending the interests of large corporations over the needed change for the American people.
In 2023, we have the potential to get the job done. We can and will enact legislation to greatly improve the lives of all Americans IF the American people give Democrats a REAL mandate in November.
We, the leaders of the Democratic Party, propose for the consideration of the American people The Blue Deal to Improve American Lives: IF the American people vote in at least 52 Democrats to the Senate and at least 222 Democrats to the House of Representatives, THEN a truly Democratic-led Congress WILL enact:
- Freedom to vote in fair elections for all American citizens without undue influence by corporations, lobbyists or the wealthy few
- Legal access to abortion care
- Common sense gun safety measures including universal background checks for gun sales and a ban on the sale of military-style weapons
- Paid family and medical leave
- Affordable prescription drugs
- Protections for our air and water with net-zero carbon emissions by 2050
- Improved crime prevention practices that will ensure equal protection under the law regardless of race
- Citizenship for qualified Dreamers
- Protection against discrimination based on sexual identity
- All of the above will be paid for by asking corporations and billionaires to pay their fair share in taxes.
These improvements in American lives are possible if enough Americans cast their ballots to elect at least 52 Democrats to the Senate and at least 222 Democrats to the House of Representatives in November. We will then be able to fulfill The Blue Deal to Improve American Lives and demonstrate the true spirit of America, a country led by and for the people.
Sincerely,
Jaime Harrison, Chair of the Democratic National Committee
Gary Peters, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
Sean Maloney, Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
