Fight back in rural PA

3 mins read

Rural Pennsylvania has elected anti-abortion, pro-NRA Republicans, and delivered huge margins for Trump.

As Turn PA Blue’s rural organizer, I know it’s not always easy to be a rural Democrat. But we know that to flip seats in the PA General Assembly, we need to compete everywhere.

Meet 7 Rural Democrats we’re supporting today.

Nerissa Galt (PA-HD6 Erie/Crawford Counties) grew up in Northwest Pennsylvania. She’s a mother fighting to protect the rights of her LGBTQ+ children.

Doug Mason (PA-HD50 Greene/Washington Counties) has been a public school music teacher for over 30 years, currently serving as Band Director in the Central Greene School District. He’s taking on State Rep. Bud Cook.

Denise Maris (PA-HD76 Clinton/Union Counties) is the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran. She is an AmeriCorps Alumni, was the first in her family to go to college, and would be the first Latina ever elected to this seat.

Paul Takac (PA-HD82 Centre County) is a father of three and has been a resident of Happy Valley near Penn State’s University Park Campus for over 20 years. Born to a working class family, he knows what it’s like to live in Rural PA, and he wants to change that for the better.

Meg Rosenfeld (PA-HD139 Wayne/Pike Counties) is a Pike County paralegal and victims advocate.  Meghan recently ran as a write-in for Delaware Valley School Board on the Student Safety First Slate.

Ian Kidd (PA-HD81 Huntingdon/Franklin Counties) was born and raised in Huntingdon County. As a high school teacher, Ian spends his days immersed in the community, with a first-hand view of people in the 81st District and the problems that they face.

Robert Zeigler (PA-HD171 Mifflin/Centre Counties) is the youngest of five siblings. Robert has been his municipality’s council President for the past two years and has led them to pass numerous pro-LGBTQ+ and anti-corruption resolutions since.

Let’s have their backs as they work to flip these seats, drive turnout up and down the ticket, and bring positive change to their communities.

We’re knocking doors, making calls, and texting to win. Stand with our Rural PA volunteers and organizers by donating to help 7 rural Democrats win today!

The grassroots energy enhanced by Turn PA Blue has the ability to drive turnout and energy upward to help Democrats running across the state at all levels. Our goal is also to integrate the inclusion of new voices into the Democratic Party on all levels, with particular emphasis on strengthening the local parties whose infrastructure is vital to the growth and efficacy of the Democratic Party will also serve to “build our bench” for future candidate recruitment.
