Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I am an Army veteran nurse, married 20 years with a son on the spectrum.
Why are you running for office?
To move forward and get our government working for us again.
What are the three biggest issues facing your community?
Inflation, education, and mental health challenges.
How do you propose to solve those problems?
We need to expand our services and reach more people to aid in mental health issues like homelessness, runaways and domestic violence. I would advocate for funding at the state and federal level, as these essential services have been grossly underserved.
What is your stance on environmental and climate concerns that are facing your community?
It’s paramount for my district to address climate change because tourism is the No. 1 industry here. Flooding and drainage problems are rife, along with an infrastructure issue with the pipes. Continuing clean-up of the Great Lakes is also crucial: maintaining the water integrity is important as we swim, drink and bathe in it.
What commonsense gun safety measures would have the most impact on your community?
Expanding background checks, mandatory waiting period, red flag laws, and closing loopholes at trade shows.
How would criminal justice reforms impact your community?
As with all communities, it would be huge. Many people would have records expunged and that could open better economic opportunities for them.
How would you work to protect a woman’s reproductive health?
I am a staunch advocate for women to have complete bodily autonomy as no one has the right to force their religious views on other people. I would support and legislate toward that end.
What measures would you advocate to ensure that your constituents have the right to vote?
The right to absentee and early voting, more drop boxes, same-day voter registration and a strong presence at the polls.
