Stop PA From Banning Abortion

Republicans in the Pennsylvania General Assembly are mobilizing to pass a state constitutional amendment taking away state protection for abortion access in Pennsylvania – and a Democratic governor can’t veto it.

If SB 956 passes, it could allow Pennsylvania to ban abortion without exception, and render state courts powerless to stop it.

Constitutional amendments must pass in two consecutive sessions of the General Assembly. That’s why we MUST flip the PA House NOW.

Mandy Steele (PA-HD33 Allegheny) is a Fox Chapel Borough Councilwoman running in a crucial open seat. She has led on building green infrastructure, cleaning up toxins, and building solar power.

Dr. Arvind Venkat (PA-HD30 Allegheny) is an emergency room doctor running to fix our broken healthcare system. He’d be the first South Asian member to serve in the over 300 year history of the PA House.

Paul Takac (PA-HD82 Centre) is a father and College Township Councilmember running to represent Penn State. He currently works in educational technology, and will fight for our public schools and universities.

Cathy Spahr (PA-HD160 Chester/Delco) is a fierce advocate of women’s rights. She’s a mom of twins, transportation planner and environmental advocate running to flip a district that has trended in favor of Democrats.

Vito Malacari (PA-HD119 Luzerne) teaches Social Studies, is president of his teacher’s union. He’ll fight back against right-wing attacks on public schools, academic freedom, and LGBTQ youth.

Paul Friel (PA-HD26 Chester) is president of the Owen J. Roberts School Board, where he fights back against right-wing attacks on our public schools. A business owner and father of four, he’s running against a vulnerable Republican drawn into a Biden +13 district.

Lisa Borowski (PA-HD168 Delco) is a ward commissioner member running against State Rep. Chris Quinn, a Republican with a 0% rating from Planned Parenthood.

Melissa Cerrato (PA-HD151 Montco) is running against one of PA’s most dangerous politicians; this needs to be the last term for shape-shifter/opportunist Todd Stephens. As former district director for Rep. Liz Hanbidge, Melissa has the training and experience to serve the new HD 151.
