Leaving No Voters Behind | Virginia is My District

Friday Power Lunch, April 1, 2022 noon ET

At the 2018 Women’s Summit, Rebecca Colaw (retired Air Force officer, solo practice attorney in Suffolk, and candidate for Delegate in HD 64 in 2017) spoke eloquently on what was needed to win in rural Virginia. She ended with a statement that has become a rally cry for Network NOVA. Rebecca said that in order to turn rural Virginia blue we need to expand our thinking from focusing on just this Delegate race or that Congressional district, to running in every district in every election. As she pointed out, we can’t leave any voter behind in any part of the state. The theme of this week’s Friday Power Lunch (4/1/2022) is leave no voter behind as we recognize that what happens in one part of the state affects everyone in the state. To put it another way, the entire Commonwealth of Virginia is our district. We will start the show talking to Tom Bonier, CEO of Targetsmart, on what they are learning about the 2021 election from evaluating voter data. One of the big lessons he’ll discuss is how critical senior rural voters were in the election outcome. We will then continue our spotlight on local news with a conversation with Luanne Rife, Executive Director of Cardinal News in Roanoke, Virginia. Commonwealth’s Attorneys Buta Biberaj (Loudoun) and Steve Descano (Fairfax) will give us an update on their strides for criminal justice reform and the disturbing antics of the new Attorney General.
