Holidays 2021

Happy Holidays, Missouri!

What do you think of our new look?!

Before we go into full holiday mode, we wanted to do a quick catch-up before the New Year. 2022 is *literally* around the corner and the Missouri Democratic Party staff is pumped up and ready to go! As we continue developing agenda must-haves with legislators, we will send a detailed email with what to expect this session in the Missouri Legislature and how we can help.

From Washington, we’ve hit a snag, there’s no doubting that. The Build Back Better Agenda is instrumental in our country’s recovery from COVID-19, but also simply preparing America for the future. The residents and workers of West Virginia have been hard at work to get Senator Machin’s attention and demand he support the Build Back Better Agenda. In the meantime, we as Missourians can spread good cheer about what our state stands to gain from the Democratic agenda.

Harvest and Holidays 2021

Missouri family farmers are seeing better prices, more investment and attention from Washington D.C. since President Biden took office earlier this year. One of his first waves of executive orders addressed the agriculture failures of the 45th president.

Wes Shoemyer of Monroe County, a fourth generation, active family farmer saw improvement almost immediately after the Orders were signed and saw even more gains this past harvest. With the holiday season in full swing, Missouri farmers and MDP ask consumers to take a closer look before grabbing the first product off the grocery store shelf.

“Every choice we make makes a difference and if you go into a store, the consumer should educate themselves to see who owns it. There are opportunities to buy beef and pork produced by local farmers that do it right. The truth is, that kind of food is better for people, it’s better for a community, and it’s just all-around better for this country. It’s food security,” said Shoemyer.

Missouri Vaccines and Healthcare

COVID-19 is not over. The Omicron variant is working its way through all of our communities and we cannot let our guard down. Unfortunately, the right is still touting dangerous misinformation and completely blowing off the COVID threat this holiday season and into the winter.

The holidays are about family and friends, we all miss that. This year, be as safe as possible with small groups, masking, prior testing and getting fully vaccinated.Find vaccine near me

While the ACA deadline has passed, Missouri is still accepting applications for the recently expanded Medicaid system. We fought so hard for this policy and now our responsibility is to inform our communities.

What’s Eric up to?

Nothing good, per usual. Executive Director Randy Dunn on Schmitt’s litigation tirade:

” Schmitt’s recent moves are a continuation of a dangerous COVID-19 misinformation campaign that will ultimately cost more Missouri lives, including our children’s. School districts and health officials are tasked with keeping Missourians safe, educated, and healthy. The Missouri Attorney General is asking them to stop all three. For Schmitt, it’s about 2022 votes. For the rest of us, it’s about the lives of our families, friends and neighbors.”

Deadly Storms wreak havoc

Last week Missouri, Kentucky, Louisiana, Illinois and more midwest states witnessed deadly severe thunderstorms and tornados that left their communities ravaged.

This happened in December. And today, Christmas Eve, the high is in the 60s across most of our state.

We need climate action NOW.
