East Asia hasn’t had a war since Vietnam in 1975. Trump’s saber-rattling diplomacy threw that legacy away. Biden is doubling down. We’re “that close” to sleepwalking into a war that no one can possibly win. What happened and what can we do about it?
Jay will start with a five-minute examination of this question, then open to questions and comments but, since China is so big, before opening to others I’ll give several suggested areas of inquiry including
- Xi Jinping’s leadership – human rights in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong
- Flashpoints in Taiwan and the South China Sea
- Macro issues including climate change and democracy vs. authoritarianism
- How to build a new world order.
