Stop the Recall Actions for this week

Act Now to Stop the Recall

Vote No to Stop the Recall!

Voting by mail is already underway. We can’t be complacent in California- the polls are too close to call. There’s a real danger this Republican recall will succeed and that we will have a new, regressive governor of California. This all depends on turnout. So vote now, and then tell your friends. And there are lots of options for action on our Stop the Recall link tree, including:

Phone Banks: Join our phone banks on Sundays, or make calls on your own using either PDI to make calls using your computer or your phone to dial registered Democrats and Independents or the Activate America Call Hub (returning user login or register for the first time) and have your computer dial so you can talk to voters or leave voice mails. If you don’t want to do it alone then join other phone banks (Activate AmericaGrassRoots Dems). You can make calls any day of the week.

Friend Bank: Tell your friends and family not only how important this is, but also how close we are to having a governor who represents less than 20% of Californians. The rules are so skewed that Newsom could get 49.9% and yet whomever of the 46 on ballot got the most votes (potentially as little as 10-15%!) would be our new governor. That’s not democracy!
Lots of folks don’t understand that the race is super close because they don’t realize how it works. Some may think there’s no way we could lose so why bother to vote. While others may think it’s OK to say Yes as a protest to Newsom without realizing the alternatives are much worse for all of our progressive issues. Talk it up … get your friends to talk it up.

Banner Brigade: Take a shift on the brigade hoisting Stop the Recall Vote No banner for I-80 motorists. Sign up here

Digital Friend Banking: If you want to reach out by email or text to all your Democrat and independent friends that are registered in California, there’s a cool new tool for that, Outreach Circle. It lets you match your contacts to the list of registered Democrats and Independents in California to let you know who to contact. You control the subject, the message and who you chose to send it to/or not. Here’s how to get started.

P.S.- Though our focus is on the dire consequences of the recall, we don’t want important state bills to slip under the radar. SB 2, the Kenneth Ross Jr. Police Decertification Act of 2021, would provide a means to decertify police who commit serious misconduct. It would be an important step toward providing the same basic accountability that 48 other states already have. Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry hasn’t committed to supporting the bill- we need to call her and let her know it’s important to us! A sample script and contact numbers/email are below.

5 people on a street corner by the Davis Farmer's Market hold a large blue banner with white text reading "Stop recall! Vote No"

Stop the Republican Recall. Just Vote No!

Tell your friends- and find more Stop the Recall actions (including the Banner Brigade) on the link tree.

Yes on SB 2:

Assm. Aguiar-Curry: (530) 757-1034 (Davis) (916) 319-2004 (Sacramento) email

Sample Call Script for Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry:

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m a voter and my zip code is [zip code].

I am calling to urge Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry to vote YES on SB 2, The Kenneth Ross Jr. Police Decertification Act of 2021. It is unacceptable that the California has a process for revoking the licenses of hair dressers but no means for decertifying police officers who commit serious misconduct. SB 2 provides a path for basic accountability for law enforcement in California, a path that 48 states already have. It is an important step toward making our communities safer. Will Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry support SB 2?
