In response to the tragic building collapse of part of Champlain towers in Surfside, FL yesterday and the ongoing search and rescue efforts there, Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz released the following statement.
“As the search and rescue efforts continue on for the 159 people still missing from the building collapse in Surfside, FL, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of all of the victims and those impacted. We continue to hope for more miracles.

“Additionally, we are so grateful for the compassionate and decisive leadership of Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the support of all of the elected officials and community members who have stepped up to help those impacted by this tragedy. Furthermore, we are deeply thankful for the brave search and rescue teams that have been working through the night to find survivors, and the local journalists who have been working tirelessly to tell the story.
“This is a truly unimaginable tragedy and a very difficult moment for our community, that will have ripple effects for many years to come. If you are able, please go to Supportsurfside.org to support those impacted”

Florida Democrats believe in effective and efficient government that prioritizes quality education, affordable health care, and an economy in which anyone who works hard can succeed.

Most importantly, we believe that we are stronger together. We believe the fundamental American promise — that you can go as far as your own hard work will take you — should shine brightest in Florida.

That is why we champion the middle class and cherish the principle that all Floridians should have the opportunity to work hard and succeed. That is why we will never stop fighting for better public schools, because education is the surest path to a better life for millions.

From standing for affordable health care and better schools to fighting for civil rights and access to the ballot box, Florida Democrats are leading every day to move our state forward.
