Hello Ventura Indivisians
Our first “post-covid” free immigration fair, Swap Meet Justice, was incredible! We serviced, with immigration professionals at the lead, over 70 people, answered questions, helped fill out paperwork, listened to experiences.
Our next SMJ is on June 27, where we will be joined by Oxnard COVID Vaccine Clinic!
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!
Click here for all the details!
We also have postcard campaigns in full swing! We are not yet meeting in person, but hope to soon. We miss our Third Thursdays Postcard Crew desperately!

After your calls to action – events and resources
Your Calls to Action:
Remember the work we did for the 2020 election? Time to do it again for democracy itself. We must help push through S.1- “For the People” Act. (more info)
The S-1 For the People Act includes provisions like: making it easier to register to vote, expanding early voting nationwide, ending political gerrymandering, and supporting statehood for the DC. A majority of Americans support many of the provisions currently in the bill. (Here’s a quick primer on S.1 – For the People Act.)
Call your US Senators every day in June to demand that Senators pass the For The People Act to protect our freedom to vote.
Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Sen. [___] work hard to pass S1, the For the People Act. What makes something “bipartisan” is not whether politicians of both parties endorse a bill—but whether the proposal has broad support among voters across the political spectrum. This bill does. It’s time to stop making excuses, and start delivering results for the American people. We want dark money out of politics; we want partisan gerrymandering to end. We want to be able to vote freely and fairly. Do your jobs, please. Make passing S1 your top priority.
For Democrats, add-in script: Please talk to your colleagues who still support the filibuster over what’s really important to us.
Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430
and Senator Padilla: DC (202) 224-3553, LA (310) 231-4494, SAC (916) 448-2787, Fresno (559) 497-5109, SF (415) 981-9369, SD (619) 239-3884

Find a call campaign that fits your schedule and roll up your sleeves! Are you an introvert who really hates calling people? Well, that may actually be your super-power! Check this link out and find out why…
1 – FAIR FIGHT (more info)
Fair Fight founder Stacey Abrams: “We need your help to call voters in states across the country to hear their voting experiences. Through these stories you will help collect, Fair Fight Action and our partners will demonstrate to Congress the need for enhanced federal protections to ensure all eligible voters are able to cast their vote freely and make their voices heard, regardless of where they live.”

2 – VoPros – Calls to West Virginians
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through June call voters in West Virginia and connect them to Senator Manchin’s office to leave a message in support of For the People Act (S1). These shifts will include training for first-timers before you make calls – so if this is your first time, no worries! We’ll make sure you feel prepared before you begin.

3 – Center for Common Ground – Calls to Arizona
Make calls to Arizona Voters and patching them through to Senator Kyrsten Sinema, where they will encourage her to help reform the filibuster in order to protect and defend democracy.
You are welcome to make calls any time (9am-8pm within the target state’s time zone, no Sunday mornings). If you’d like to make calls with a group of volunteers, sign up for the guided phone banks.

Who owns American history? The GOP’s battle against Critical Race Theory and what we can do about it (more info)
Educators say the history of systemic racism in this country and the contributions of Black people have been erased. “The curriculum was never designed to be anything other than white supremacist,” Julian Hayter, a historian and an associate professor at the University of Richmond in Virginia, said, “and it has been very difficult to convince people that other versions of history are not only worth telling. They’re absolutely essential for us as a country to move closer to something that might reflect reconciliation but even more importantly, the truth.”
Tell your legislators to vote against any legislation that suppresses accurate scholarship on America’s history
Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Sen. [___] to know that I’m a fan of accurate historical scholarship and disapprove of those who misuse our nation’s laws to censor or suppress knowledge that makes them uncomfortable. Please ask him/her to vote “NO” on [Rep. – HR3046 & H.Res.397/Sen. – S.968] or any similar legislation put forth.
Rep. Brownley: email, (CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

Call again! Call your senators to vote “YES” on UFW-supported H.R. 1603 – the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, a long-delayed “thank you” for the essential workers who bring us our food. (more info)“Farmworkers need immigration reform so they can work in the fields without fear.” Fear – hardwired into the fruits and vegetables we enjoy quietly in our homes. Do better, America. This is a problem we can solve.
Minimal Script: Hello, I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Sen. [___] to vote “YES” on H.R. 1603 – the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which supports a path to citizenship for aspiring Americans working in agriculture, young aspiring Americans, and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders. Thank you.
Extra credit – If you haven’t already called on H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act of 2021, another UFW priority bill, please do so now. Scripts and information here. Or do it again!
Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

Keep calling! Call VP Harris and ask her to rule the filibuster unconstitutional (more info)
Minimal Script: I’m [calling/writing] to ask VP Harris, as presiding officer of the Senate, to rule that the filibuster is unconstitutional. Its 60-vote supermajority requirement for the enactment of general legislation is in violation of Article V, the 17th Amendment and the constitutional presumption of majority rule as prescribed in the Constitution. VP Harris: Email : http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/, Comments: 202-456-1111, Switch Board: 202-456-1414, TTY/TTD: 202-456-6213, Letters/postcards: The White House, Office of the Vice President,1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20500
Tell your senators that we expect them to make changes now!(more info)
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to let Sen. [___] know that I’ve just finished (calling/writing) Vice President Harris to ask her to rule the filibuster unconstitutional. The American public is done with the Senate’s dysfunctional legislative graveyard. This procedure must either be abolished, or substantially reformed, as it’s anti-democratic for a minority to be able to permanently block bi-partisan House legislation, especially bills related to basic democracy, like voting access and equal rights. I’m asking [him/her] to immediately engage in collaboration to reform the Senate from the legislative bottleneck it is now to a functioning body, which may include time limits, the “talking filibuster”, and majority-vote carve-outs for bills that reform and protect democracy.
Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430
