Sandy’s Background:
As the Executive Director of Common Cause Hawaii, Sandy leads campaigns, fundraising, and engages local, state, and national organizations in building coalitions around Hawaii, focusing on ethics and accountability, money and influence, and voting and elections.
Sandy comes to the organization with a broad range of nonprofit, corporate, and government experience. She previously was an ACLU attorney in North Carolina and Hawaii. She most recently worked with the Hawaii Office of Planning in the Coastal Zone Management Program, focusing on climate change, sea level rise, and coastal hazard issues.
Discussion:
For 20-30 minutes, Sandy will provide her thoughts on this year’s legislative session in Hawaii, the Common Cause bills that passed and that didn’t, and which of the failed bills will be on the agenda again for next year. She has done the lion’s share of all this work and deserves the credit. At the same time she can tell us about the action items (letters and calls) to request that Gov. Ige sign HB 670, HB 671, SB 159, SB 548, and maybe some others.
Immediately following our discussion with Sandy, we will conduct our Leadership Council meeting. All Indivisible members are welcome to stay on for this meeting.
