May 1 is the date for a special election to replace the late Ron Wright, TX CD-6’s conservative Republican congressman who died of COVID 19 days after being sworn in for a second term. This will be a “jungle” primary. The top two vote-getters, regardless of party, go to a runoff, May 24. By the filing deadline, Mar. 3, 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats had joined a crowded field. This election will fold into statewide mayoral elections, May 1, raising interest among Dems in CD-6, which is in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex with its growing urban/suburban population. Wright was believed to be potentially vulnerable to demographic shift in the coming years.
Currently, Field Team 6 is standing up postcarding and phone-banking into Ft. Worth, part of which is in CD-6. There is an open seat there for mayor to replace an unpopular Republican who is retiring. This will be mainly registering Democrats. The postcards need to be mailed by March 22nd and phonebanking is on March 9th and March 15th.
