INDIVISIBLE VENTURA

Hi everyone.
Despite the GOP’s best efforts to turn us against each other for their political gain, in times of trouble, Americans always remember that we are indivisible. While Senator Cruz was off in Cancun, Beto O’Roarke arranged a phone bank to reach out to older Texans to check on their welfare. You can join this campaign here.

We’ve collated a bunch of donation and volunteer sites to help those affected here: https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/02/18/help-texans-affected-by-the-weather-crisis/

About this Event***Interested attendees must RSVP via Eventbrite to receive the Zoom Webinar link and password 24 hours before event.***

Eventbrite.com link here. Despite the prevailing myth that children are blank slates who don’t see color, research confirms that as early as 6 months old, babies recognize race-based differences and that by ages 2 to 4, children internalize racial bias. Still, too many parents along the racial identity spectrum avoid talking with their children about race and racism because of their own adult discomfort and even their own unwillingness to acknowledge the reality of race and racism. Too many parents and caregivers adopt and model ineffective strategies such as teaching “colorblindness” or refusing to discuss race and racism at all it because “it’s not polite.” Such strategies ignore the pervasive, systemic impact and realities of racism in the United States.

WANTED: Postcard writers for Washington DC statehood and the restoration of asylum.
Time to pick up our pens for the resistance again, folks! POSTCARD #1: The disenfranchised conditions of the residents of Washington DC, which remain the same now in the 21st century as it was 200 years ago, is apalling and untenable. We need to ramp up to launch speed and get this horrendous injustice reversed.
We are sending out full packets of cards to both DEMS who haven’t signed onto H.R. 51 or H.R.1 & all GOP senators. BOTH sides of the cards are already printed. You just need to write in the legislator’s name, sign and mail. Send a request to indivisibleventura@gmail.com with “51 POSTCARDS” in the subject line.
POSTCARD #2: Who remembers Ken Cuccinelli, Trump’s mean-spirited immigration official, who tried to twist Emma Lazarus’s poem at the foot of the Statue of Liberty to exclude people who were actually tired and poor? We kicked out Trump and all his minions. Now it’s time to take back asylum. And not just take it back, but make it better and more just. Join in with What’s Next’s postcard campaigns for immigration.”https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/02/11/wanted-postcard-writers-for-washington-dc-statehood-and-the-restoration-of-asylum/)

Two anti-fossil fuel actions to take today!

Post here: https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/02/17/wed-2-17-two-anti-fossil-fuel-actions-to-take-today/#more-75150Action #1- Join in today’s call-in project to stop the Line 3 tar sands pipeline!

Basics: Line 3 is a tar sands pipeline already under construction in northern Minnesota by Enbridge, the multinational corporation responsible for the largest US inland oil spill. This project to transport a million barrels of corrosive tar sands per day from the world’s most destructive oil operation in Canada, violates treaty rights, risks over 200 bodies of water and untouched wetlands with the threat of an oil spill, and reverses our progress on climate change with a carbon equivalent of 50 coal-fired power plants. It’s being funded by Chase Bank.

Make the calls: Join in today to call Chase Bank’s CEOs, executives, and board members and ask them to stop funding this project. It’s easy to do. Just sign in here (https://stopthemoneypipeline.com/call-chase-defund-line-3/) and you’ll get a script and they’ll help you dial.

Send some emails: Link here. (https://stopthemoneypipeline.com/defund-line-3/Add your voice to the growing demand to banks like Chase, Citi, Bank of America and TD Bank to STOP financing Line 3. Send a direct email to CEOs now to demand that they stop funding the toxic Line 3 pipeline. Your email will go directly to the inboxes of CEOs, executives, and Board members of the banks funding Line 3.Action #2 – Write to Joe Biden to fulfill his promise to end the era of fossil fuel.
Email Joe a letter here. (https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/) Under “Message Type,” scroll to “Contact the President.” You’re welcome use the model message below but it’s even better if you can personalize it. Also, sign this petition here. (https://buildbackfossilfree.org)Model letter included in post.

Charge ALL the Capitol criminals

Post here: https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/02/16/tues-2-16-charge-all-the-capitol-criminals/

Action #1: Write a comment to the Department of Justice

According to an article in the Hill, some officials are thinking of letting the “nonviolent insurrectionists” who invaded our Capitol walk with NO consequences. Tell the DOJ that ALL of them entered our Capitol with the the intent to interfere with the lawful certification of Electoral College votes and should be charged with the appropriate federal crime – and there are several to choose from.

Link to DOJ comment page here. (https://www.justice.gov/doj/webform/your-message-department-justice) Select “Messages to the Attorney General.” (The tricky bit is to keep it to 2000 characters or less.) Here’s our post. We’ve put all the laws affecting crimes at the Capitol and some additional resources you can use to create your post at the bottom. Mix it up. It doesn’t need to be long. Model letter included in post.

Action #2: Copy your letter to your legislator

Say “NO” to lifetime retirement perks for our former grifter-in-chief.

https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/02/08/say-no-to-lifetime-retirement-perks-for-our-former-grifter-in-chief/
Minimum script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Sen. [___] to support legislation to specifically exempt ex-President Trump from all benefits of the Former Presidents Act, except for standard security expenses for himself and his wife. Instead, I want the funds that would have gone to his pension, travel, staff, and office space to be placed in trust for use in setting up the future 51st state of America created from Washington DC, which he abused shamefully during his term in office.

National Thank a Mail Carrier Day is over but tell Congress to strengthen the U.S. Postal Service

Minimal script for call: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Rep./Sen [___] to celebrate “Thank a Mail Carrier Day” by:

  • Passing this year’s bipartisan version of the USPS Fairness Act. [Rep. – H.R.695/Sen. – S.145] (removes the onerous burden of pre-funding retirement.
  • Ensuring the quick appointment of strong and diverse public service advocates to the USPS Board of Governors who can vote out DeJoy. (Currently, the 6-member board has no Black or women members.)
  • Returning postal banking, and adding other financial services like check-cashing, that help poorer communities.
  • Ensuring that the Postal Service continues to provide good jobs for workers, including Black workers, workers without bachelor’s degrees, and military veterans.
  • Opposing any privatization and outsourcing of USPS services.
