Hi Indivisibles,
This has been a busy week in D.C. as President Biden signs one executive order after another to undo all of the awfulness of the Trump Administration. The order that he signed on Wednesday took bold steps to combat the climate crisis both at home and throughout the world. This order put the Climate Crisis in the U.S. Foreign Policy and National Security. President Biden has stressed that clean energy jobs will be created and that these will be good-paying union jobs.
While the President is working nonstop in Washington, we at Indivisible Yolo are gearing up to push these politicians to be held accountable. We started the week with our monthly General Zoom Meeting with more than 82 participants. When asked what legislation was important to each of us we listed racial and economic justice, climate change, Covid 19 relief and so much more. We all agreed that we need to get rid of the filibuster and get to work pushing our Members of Congress to stand up to McConnell and the Republicans. Legislation must be passed and Biden must stand firm. We have high expectations of our MoCs and we have to remind Dems that their agenda is popular and that we are behind them.

First, organizers will lead a short discussion on a part of the new guide. Then, you’ll get directions on an easy action to take to persuade our elected officials to enact the key reforms in the guide.

I urge you, as my Senator, to join your Democratic colleagues in supporting the elimination of the filibuster. McConnell will use the filibuster to block COVID relief, voting rights, vital Democracy reform, and more. We cannot allow a minority of senators who represent a small percentage of the population to obstruct all the great Democratic legislation. You have 2 years to show the American people that Democrats should keep the Senate in 2022. If the filibuster stays, Democrats go. We’ll get voted out in the midterms. The Senate changed traditions to allow you, a woman, to serve. Please show leadership now and get rid of another outdated tradition. Thank you.
Sen. Padilla has publicly called for ending the filibuster; a quick “thank you” for his position will let him know he has the support of his constituents.
