Where Do We Go from Here?

“Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on.” — Supreme Court Justice,
Thurgood Marshall

We won the Presidency and the Senate with a lot of hard work and determination. Lean Left Vermont volunteers put in long hours to protect the vote.

Thank you!

But these victories are just the beginning. If we learned anything from the violent chaos that descended on Washington last week, it is that our democracy is only as strong as our commitment to it.

There is still much work to do.

In Pennsylvania Senate Republicans, who refused to seat a duly elected Democratic Senator, will continue to block Gov. Tom Wolf. Georgia’s win was breathtaking, but it took Stacey Abrams and her organization a decade of intense, on-the-ground, local organizing. Down-ballot candidates did not do as well as expected in many states. We lost seats in the U.S. House and have a razor-thin majority in the Senate. Gerrymandering is still a problem. Voter suppression is still with us.

Starting now Lean Left is evaluating the work we’ve done over the past two years. We’ll be reaching out to you for ideas on how together we can be more effective.

2022 will require an all-out effort to hold the U.S. House and Senate and to build Democratic majorities in several states that lost ground in 2020. BUT in the meantime, we can’t sit still. There will be work this year in Virginia where the governor, Lt. governor, attorney general, and all 100 seats in the House of Delegates are up for grabs, and there will be special elections in other states as well as on-going voter outreach.

We look forward to taking action with you in 2021 and will be in touch soon!

With gratitude, the Organizing Team:
Ann Smith, Dana Goss, Lauren Geiger, August Burns, Drea Thew, Brooke Nadell, Gretchen Elias, Rebecca Davison
