INDIVISIBLE VENTURA

8 mins read

Hi everyone!

It’s Friday of a hard week, as we watched our president and a high-ranking senator use the power of their office in possibly felonious ways and a once-respected mayor of NY appear to literally melt down on live TV. (tinyurl.com/Antiracist-events-Ventura)

But today, we need to take time out to honor “Transgender Day of Remembrance” and to say the names of those of that community who died this year.

Our local Diversity Collective – Ventura County (www.diversitycollectivevc.org) is holding two events.

At 2:00 pm this afternoon, there is an opportunity to create a personal TDoR remembrance art piece. This is happening IRL at the Community Resource Center, at 2471 Portola Rd., Ventura. Strict COVID are in effect. RSVP to rainbowumbrella@diversitycollective.org.

At 7:00 pm, the Diversity Collective is holding an online event “DVVD Transgender Day of Remembrance”, hosted by Celia Daniels. Facebook link here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1073856303108890/Register Here: https://www.diversitycollectivevc.org/…/transgender…/

Shift and contact information for volunteering in our post. Phonebank: (https://www.mobilize.us/christyforcongress/event/362606/)Door knocking: (https://www.mobilize.us/christyforcongress/event/362615/) and here (https://www.mobilize.us/cadems/event/362687/)

Other Actions:Dump Graham: There are more calls to de-seat Trump’s lapdog Senator Graham everyday. We’ve updated our action with a letter from ethics lawyers and law professors to use with senators who might be reluctant to out one of their own. (SENATOR FEINSTEIN, we’re looking at you…) Please call your senators, and ask them to do the right thing. We’ve had enough of the corruption of the Trump administration and their enablers and we won’t stand silent as it happens again. (https://indivisibleventura.org/…/wed-11-18-lindsey…/)
Inside the action, we shared an older video from Keith Olbermann, from when Obama was our president-elect. He reminded us then, and it’s just as true now, that corruption unaddressed, becomes the normalized foundations for new levels of criminal behavior.

https://youtu.be/KM-6MaToThE The history is clear. We need to chase it all down.

Deplatform Parlor: Tell Tim Cook of Apple to stop offering the Parler app! Infowars, whose podcasts were banned by Apple, is now a regular on Parler, an barely-moderated app that Apple offers, along with the usual suspects of the far-right. The platform’s popularity is increasing exponentially as Twitter and Facebook have gotten more serious about moderating hateful and false posts. It didn’t sit well with us that the maker of our beloved Ipads is enabling political extremism, even one step removed. So we wrote Tim Cook an email and you can too. (https://indivisibleventura.org/…/11-13-dear-tim-please…/)Want to know what’s on Parler without opening it?: (http://www.wiesenthal.com/…/parler_report_final-2020.pdf)Feel free to reference it in your comment to Tim Cook.

Food Drives: One-Day “Hip Hop Mindset” Thanksgiving Food Drive, on Nov. 22nd. “Help us help those in need this Thanksgiving here in our hometown! We will be collecting non-perishable food items from 10AM – 1PM at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center with our HHM kiddos! This will be a DRIVE up and DROP OFF event. Non-perishable items will be collected such as cans of vegetables, cans of soup, cranberry sauce, pies, a box of mashed potatoes mix, gravy mix, rolls.. ETC… There are raffle tickets as well. More information: (https://www.facebook.com/events/368484791062982)
Canned Food Drive: BLM-VC is running a canned food drive until mid-December. Help isn’t coming from our soon-to-be-ex-president and the miscreants in our Senate, and people are in need.
Keep up to date: Check out upcoming events here and keep your resistance calendar updated. Sometimes we’re late getting this notice out, so get ahead of us here and sometimes you have to sign up for particular events a day ahead of time. (https://indivisibleventura.org/events-having-tomorrow/)
If we’ve missed an event, please email us at indivisibleventura@gmail.com.

Have a great, safe weekend!
