September 24 Newsletter: Office Openings

8 mins read

It has now been 162 days since Breonna Taylor was shot and killed in her own home in Louisville, Kentucky. And it’s been one day since the Attorney General of Kentucky decided the only crime that was committed was that some of the bullets fired ended up in her neighbors’ walls. We must continue to Say Her Name, and we must continue to insist that Black Lives Matter. We condemn the shooting of police officers in Louisville, just as we insist on upholding our First Amendment rights to peaceably assemble and protest injustice whenever we see it.

It has now been six days since Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died. And five days and twenty-three hours since Senate Republicans, including Marco Rubio, decided their previous “principled” positions on filling Supreme Court seats in a presidential election year did not matter. We will not let this hypocrisy pass without a fight. Sign our petition to Marco Rubio and Rick Scott.

And we now have 7 days until the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections mails out Vote-by-Mail ballots to hundreds of thousands of voters throughout Miami-Dade County. It’s not too late to request a ballot: you can request one in minutes starting at our website, www.votefromhome.miami. Remember: even with a Vote-By-Mail request, you can still vote in person, and you can also drop your completed ballot in its signed envelope at any of the 33 Early Voting sites in Miami-Dade during Early Voting hours from October 19 – November 1.

And with just 40 days until November 3, working with the Daniella Levine Cava mayoral campaign, we are busy opening offices in different parts of the county. There are offices open in Miami Gardens, Doral, Coral Gables and we are opening an office in Perrine on Friday and one in Liberty City on Saturday. More will follow in the coming weeks. Want to join an all-volunteer contactless lit drop? We’re hosting one in Perrine on Friday starting around 2pm. The Northeast Dade Dems are hosting one in Griffing Park on Saturday morning starting at 8:30. Stay tuned for more contactless lit drops in the coming days.

Volunteer Teams: We are filling out volunteer teams — neighborhood leads, Early Voting site captains and more. Interested in helping with these efforts? Sign up here.

Paid Canvassers: There are a number of campaigns that are hiring right now and we are collecting resumes for anyone who is interested in a $15/hour paid role doing socially distanced canvassing. Are you interested? Or know someone who is? Fill out this form here, and one of the campaigns will be in touch.

I can’t thank all of our sustaining donors enough for stepping up and pitching in a small amount each month. These sustaining donations allow us to plan the programs that will drive up voter turnout across our county. We couldn’t run our field program or our digital program without your support.

Can you become a sustaining donor of $7$10, or $20.20 today?

We know this is a tough time for many of us right now, so please know we appreciate you staying involved in any way that you can. Thank you for all you do.
