URGENT ACTION ALERT
AS promoted in Times by ACLU, AFL-CIO, SEUI, Southern Poverty Law Center, Call Governor DeSantis at 850-717-9337 and urge him to VETO SB1794. Presenting obstacles to citizens initiatives like Amend 4, Florida Forever, Classroom Size by making it more expensive and difficult for citizens to establish legislation is being curtailed by this bill. Our own legislature is retaliating against us. Will our Governor also? CALL HIM TODAY….
Pinellas Carders and Covid-19
Carding – and Voting By Mail – are a great way to make a difference while you are social distancing
Are We Still Having Card Parties on Monday Night? ABSOLUTELY! We will still be at the Rivera and Theresa Rooms at Allendale UMC at 3803 Haines Road North on Monday nights from 6PM to 8PM. We Lysol all the table tops and chairs before each party. There are enough tables so that you can have your own table. You are welcome to join us and work on cards.
Do We Have Drive-Up Service? WHY NOT! Starting this Monday, March 16 we will have drive-up service for people who want to drop off card packs and pick up new packs without getting out of their cars from 6PM to 8PM. There is a driveway in front of the door to the Rivera Room on Haines Road North. Approach the church from the west on 38th Avenue and turn right onto Haines. The driveway will be immediately on your right. Just pull up and we will take your finished packs and give you new ones.
Are the Card Packs and Other Materials Safe? YES! An NIH study found that the Covid-19 virus cannot live for 24 hours on cardboard. Our packs, envelopes and instructions have been in isolation for at least three days before they go from our sanitized hands to yours. Here is the link to the NIH study: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.09.20033217v1.full.pdf.
We aren’t going to let coronavirus put a dent in our card campaign! Stick with us so we can turn Pinellas County BLUE in November
From John Stewart:
I have talked with most of the regulars at our demonstrations about how to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some want to stay at home, and some want to continue our Tuesday and Wednesday demonstrations. So here is a solution that will hopefully satisfy everyone.
If you want to attend the weekly Tuesday morning or Wednesday afternoon demonstrations, come ahead. On Tuesday morning outside Rubio’s and Scott’s offices at the federal courthouse, some regulars will stay home, and some will attend. Those attending will travel by themselves instead of carpooling as we usually do, and we will keep social distance from each other at the demo. I plan to be at 22nd Avenue and 9th Street North from 4:30-5:30 PM, so if anyone wants to join me, come ahead. If not, stay home and take care of yourself.
Unfortunately, this means we will forgo what are the high points of the demonstrations for many of us, the Tuesday morning Kahwah cup of coffee and the Wednesday night dinner. But these will return when the pandemic ends.
DEMONSTRATION AT THE OFFICES OF SEN. RUBIO AND SEN. SCOTT
Every Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 AM
Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Court House
801 N. Florida Ave. Tampa, FL 33602
Indivisible and other local activist groups gather outside the offices of Senator Scott and Senator Rubio in the Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Court House in Tampa every Tuesday morning. This weekly demonstration began in 2017 outside Rubio’s office on Kennedy Boulevard after Rubio’s refusal to meet with his constituents. Each week activists call the Senators’ office staffs to relate their focus for that demonstration, and e-mail pictures of the signs for that week to the staff. Activists will have signs available.
