Nobody Is Above The Law

A historic day is coming.

Since the day he took the oath of office, Donald Trump has engaged in repeated abuses of power and abuses of the public trust.  He refused to divest from his business interests around the world before assuming the presidency, setting himself on a collision course with the two anti-corruption provisions of the US Constitution, the emoluments clauses.  He has committed multiple impeachable offenses since that time, including obstructing justice, advocating racial violence and hostility, and unconstitutionally imprisoning children and their families at the southern border of the United States.

To add to the long list of high crimes committed by this president, we now know that Trump sought foreign assistance from the Ukraine government to help his re-election campaign and that he engaged in bribery and extortion to try to get that illegal assistance.

The evening before the House votes to impeach Trump, dozens of organizations, including DemCastUSA , MoveOn, Indivisible, Stand Up America, People For the American Way, and Public Citizen will launch nationwide rapid-response demonstrations.

If and when Trump is impeached, events in the Capitol will dominate global headlines. But what happens on the streets, in cities and towns across the country, is another story — one we will write.

We have an opportunity to lead Americans in historic demonstrations demanding an end to a presidency marred by corruption and lawlessness that threatens the core of our democracy. We have the opportunity to make the impeachment vote a turning point — the start of a new page in American history.

One day history will ask what you did to protect Democracy and the rule of law.
