I happened upon Extinction Rebellion in London this evening. They are Occupying Trafalgar Square in an effort to draw attention to the Climate Crisis.
Some of the Extinction Rebellion activists are guarding a hearse (some have chained themselves to it) that is blocking off where Whitehall (where Downing Street & Parliament are) accessesTrafalgar Square.
Benedict Cumberbatch stopped by to say hello.
I asked a couple of activists what they were doing there guarding the hearse and obstructing traffic.
I passed my phone into the occupier of the hearse that Extinction Rebellion has blocked Trafalgar Square with and asked her to tell me what she was doing there.
Another Extinction Rebellion activist in Trafalgar Square told me why she thinks the movement has happened and why it’s so important.
The #ExtinctionRebellionLondon members intend to occupy Trafalgar Square for 2 weeks, if they can. (Police have already closed down a dozen other areas in London that Extinction Rebellion was holding and there have been over 800 arrests so far.)
