“Take to the streets: #ImpeachNow”
Mobilizations to demand that House immediately vote to impeach the President
Washington, D.C. — On Thursday, September 26th, activist group By the People issued a call for marches nationwide in support of impeachment on October 13th. Announced during a #ImpeachNow rally on Capitol Hill alongside several Members of Congress, the call to action encourages Americans to “take to the streets”and turn up the public pressure on Congress to swiftly impeach Trump.
Supporters will be able to register mobilizations across the country at bytheppl.us/impeachnow.
The announcement comes on the heels of a whistleblower complaint confirming that the President used the power of his office to solicit foreign government interference in the 2020 election. House leadership has thus far been publicly unclear on the timeline for impeachment proceedings nor how articles of impeachment will be drafted.
“Trump and his administration have been wielding the executive branch to undermine our democracy, divide Americans against each other, and enrich and empower themselves. His solicitation of foreign government interference in the 2020 election is the latest evidence of Trump selling out the American people in order to maintain his hold on power,” said Alexandra Flores-Quilty, Executive Director of By the People. “Now, our elected representatives have a choice: they can protect Trump or they can protect the American people.”
“Congress will only act if millions of us demand it. That’s why on October 13th, we are calling for marches nationwide to demand our elected representatives #ImpeachNow,” said Anthony Torres, Communications Director for By the People. “We will come together across race, gender, class, and geography to say: we want a government that works for all Americans, not for the personal gain of Trump and his friends—and we’re demanding Congress impeach this administration to make it happen.”
