Here are the Democratic Senate Seats To Protect in 2020

2 mins read

How badly do you want to flip the Senate next year?

Oh boy, don’t get me started on how much I want the Senate. I’m so happy to have the House, (thank you voters!!), but having all of these amazing bills languish because the Senate won’t even look at them sucks.

Today, let’s look at the Senate seats up for re-election that the Democrats need to hold onto. (I’ll do the Republican seats in a separate post.) Clicking on the Senator’s name will take you to their campaign website where you can sign up for updates, donate, or volunteer.

Most At Risk

Alabama – Doug Jones

Doug Jones won the Alabama seat in a special election in 2017 after Jeff Sessions became the U.S. Attorney General. The Alabama seat is considered a toss-up but a few outlets believe the seat leans Republican. Being an incumbent will help Jones a bit, but this is Alabama in a presidential election year — in 2016, Trump won the state by 28 points. If there is a Senate seat that needs our attention and help, it’s this one.

Competitive, But Likely Democratic

Michigan – Gary Peters

Minnesota – Tina Smith

New Mexico – Open

Tom Udall is not running for re-election. There are currently three Democrats running in the primary which you can see HERE

Safe Democratic

Delaware – Chris Coons

Illinois – Dick Durbin

Massachusetts – Ed Markey

New Hampshire – Jeanne Shaheen

New Jersey – Cory Booker

Booker can run simultaneously for President and the Senate, according to New Jersey law.

Oregon – Jeff Merkley

Rhode Island – Jack Reed

Virginia – Mark Warner
