National Paid Leave by 2022? Katie Bethell of PL+US Has a Plan for That! (Pt 1/2) (Electorette)

2 mins read

Katie Bethell, founder of the PL+US (Paid Leave For the United States), talks about their national campaign to win paid family leave by 2022. PL+US has already had several successes within the private sector and has already won paid family leave for nearly 6 million Americans.
We talk about the necessity of paid leave beyond mothers and babies; paid leave is a human right and if implemented correctly, a good national paid leave policy will include those who need to take care of aging parents, time off to care for love ones who may be sick, and adoptive parents, just to name a few scenarios.

Like many of you, I was driven to "do something" after the 2016 election. The "something" I did was to launch the Electorette podcast. My aim with The Electorette was not to analyze every single tweet; nor to rant ad nauseum about just how unhinged the voice behind said tweets are. What I do want to accomplish is further the sense of community and strength experienced during the Women's Marches around the world, provide some solutions for getting out of this mess and to bring brilliant minds (lady minds) together, so that together we can move towards creating the open, welcoming democracy that we know America truly is. #TheFutureIsFemale
