Ways we can help get out the vote
Nov 3

- CONVINCING FOLKS AROUND US TO VOTE FOR KAMALA
The most effective voter outreach comes from people we already know and respect – and we’re going to be the biggest political influences in many of our personal networks. In these final hours, let’s make sure we get through to folks who trust us. The Reach App can help us message our friends and acquaintances who might be undecided about Kamala Harris and have thoughtful conversations that persuade them to vote Dem and help with the campaign. We can learn how to use it in under an hour, and the party has trainings scheduled every hour this afternoon, tomorrow afternoon and even on Election Day. Let’s sign up for a training and start putting the Reach App to use here. And let’s check out this list of talking points from Emily in Your Phone for ideas on what we can say in those conversations. - TAKING THE FIGHT TO TRUMP TERRITORY
Defeating Trumpism for good won’t be easy, and it will require us to win in places that seem out of reach now. We’re going to have to take Senate seats in deep red states and gain ground in deep red communities to build our majorities and to avoid every election being an existential crisis. This work is already well underway, and we need to do our part! Let’s sign up to phonebank to send Jon Tester and Sherrod Brown back to Washington and join Movement Labs and Contest Every Race to turn out rural Democrats in key battleground states – plenty of times available throughout the next three days! (H/t Rise Up for Justice)
ACTIVATING THE CLIMATE ACTION VOTE
This election will shape global action on climate change for the next four years – so we need to be sure it’s decided by people who want more global action on climate change. Both the Environmental Voter Project and the Sunrise Movement are aggressively seeking to turn out folks who care about our planet’s future. We can join EVP’s phonebanks to reach low-propensity pro-environment voters here for shifts all day through Tuesday, and call or text young voters with Sunrise.
GOTV (TAYLOR’S VERSION)
Swifties for Kamala and Voters of Tomorrow are joining forces to call and text battleground states while watching the Eras Tour! We are welcome to join in these virtual voter contact sessions, with multiple time slots today. Let’s sign up here, and then join these groups for more texting Monday and Tuesday.
POLLER-COASTER GOING FULL SPEED IN IOWA
Most of us saw yesterday’s headline: Ann Selzer, the gold standard of Iowa pollsters and one of the most reliable pollsters in the country, has Vice-President Harris leading Trump 47-44 among likely voters in the state, keyed by gains among independent and older women. This is within the margin of error, but still a big surprise. While it’s important to not attach too much weight to any one individual poll, this is a great opportunity for us to refocus our attention on the multiple competitive House races in Iowa we might be better positioned to win than we assumed. The Hawkeye State is unlikely to decide the White House, but it could be crucial to giving us Speaker Hakeem Jeffries. Christina Bohannan has posted good numbers in her challenge to Republican incumbent Rep. Marianette Miller-Meeks in the First District, while Sarah Corkery and Lanon Baccam face taller challenges against House GOPers Ashley Hinson and Zach Nunn in the Second and Third Districts. Let’s sign up to help phonebank for Christina Bohannan here, and put our names on the list to learn of more volunteer opportunities with the Iowa Democrats here.
MAKING THE STAKES OF THIS ELECTION CLEAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA
We can’t let a single voter go to the polls not understanding what’s at stake. The Progress Action Fund has produced a heart-rending video that illustrates the full costs of letting the GOP have their way on abortion – and they’ve found it moves swing-state men away away from Trump by 2.5 points. Our friends at DemCast USA have made it easy to share this ad. Let’s use their toolkit and post this #MAGAAbortionBan clip on our social media.
DAN RATHER’S ADVICE FOR STAYING SANE
How the race can be so close is really hard to believe, but it is what is being reported. We need to fight the urge to back down now. We need to take that deep breath and commit to making these last days count by continuing doing something. Skip the polls and the news. Instead, let’s read Dan Rather’s advice for staying sane.
VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINES
Some states’ new voter registration deadlines for the November election has already passed, and some are still coming up. We still have time to talk to our friends and neighbors to encourage people to register! We can see all the deadlines, by state, here, as well as get info on how to register here.
JOIN A PHONE BANK OR CANVASS IN MICHIGAN
Michigan is another vital state for Kamala Harris, and Amy Siskind has two opportunities for us to help, either by phone banking or canvassing. If we would like to phone bank, we do so with the Michigan One Campaign, the State party, DNC and Harris campaign working together. The event will be run by Siskind’s organizers with training, support and many opportunities to make calls. While each session starts with training, if we’re experienced, we can hit the phones right away. Shifts are available from Friday Nov 1 through Tuesday, Nov 5. Weekday trainings start at 2:00 pm ET and at 5pm ET. Weekend phone banks run all day, with trainings at 9am, 12pm, 3pm and 6pm ET. We can sign up here to make calls for Kamala Harris to voters in Michigan. If we are able to canvass in the state, we can find local opportunities here. If we have other questions about coming to Michigan to canvass, we can contact Sara Smith at ssmirin@2024victory.com
MAKE CALLS OR CANVASS TO KEEP NEVADA BLUE
Nevada is in danger. Early voting has the GOP ahead by over 5%, a gap we must make up and pass if we are to win this badly needed state. There is still time to turn things around, and this weekend, we can call or canvass to get our fellow Democrats out to the polls. With shifts available all day from this Sat, through Election Day, we can choose our days and times to make calls to Nevada voters here. If we can be in Las Vegas this weekend, we can canvass with the Teamsters.
RIDES TO THE POLLS
“At Rideshare2Vote, our mission is to empower individuals through heightened civic engagement and improved access to the voting process. We’ve implemented a comprehensive voter outreach field program, inclusive of transportation services tailored for Democratic and Progressive voters.” We can find out how to order a ride, offer a ride, or otherwise connect and help here.
HARRIS-WALZ PROTECTION PHONE BANK
The Harris-Walz team needs our help to call likely Democratic voters in battleground states with potential issues with their registration or ballots to ensure their votes are fairly counted! Every day, we strategize directly with state voter protection teams to call the voters that need our help the most. Time is running out for these likely Democratic voters to fix any issues and vote. These can be sensitive calls as we’re dealing with challenges voters may face, but they generally appreciate our outreach because our only agenda is to ensure they’re able to cast their ballot and ensure it counts. No experience necessary, though we will need to use our computer, an online script/calling platform, and our phone to make these calls, so comfort with computers is important. We will be trained for the first 30 minutes, and coordinators will stay on to support us along the way, and there is a debrief for 10 minutes at the end. We’ll need a computer with internet and a phone; tablets/iPads aren’t recommended for compatibility issues. Let’s sign up for as many shifts as we can! Multiple dates and times offered. Register here. (h/t Small Deeds Done)
