October 28, 2024 – 7 Sleeps To Go!
Ways we can help get out the vote
Oct 28

- PHONE BANK WITH THE ENVIRONMENTAL VOTER PROJECT
The Environmental Voter Project uses behavioral science-informed messaging, calls, canvasses, mailers, and digital ads to reach millions of low-propensity environmental voters each year with just one goal: turning them into better voters. They are now mobilizing voters every day in October, but they also need to fill hundreds of phone banking shifts from November 1st-5th. We can sign up here. (h/t CFAA)
- CANVASSING AND POLL WATCHING WITH ACTIVATE AMERICA HEREWith less than two weeks until Election Day, every action counts, and canvassing is still one of the most effective ways to motivate voters. If we’d like to canvass in a vital district, Activate America has a handy list of ways to start. We can get free bus rides to important locations and receive training and support to make our door knocking experiences easy and fun. We can find free bus rides to canvassing actions, poll observer training, and other opportunities here.
- TEXTBANK FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN RED STATES
Even if we defeat Trump and the Comstockers at the national level, it will be a hard road to securing abortion rights in the legislatures of hard red states. This makes reproductive rights referenda in places like Florida, Missouri and Montana crucial. The crew at Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights will be texting voters in favor of CI-128 today and Monday at 6:00 PM ET/4:00PM Mountain. Indivisible Little Rock and Central Arkansas – having been denied the chance to vote on abortion in their own state by right-wing legal gamesmanship – is hosting a textbank to help turn out voters for Amendment 3 across the state line on Monday at 8PM ET/7 PM Central. Floridians Protecting Freedom is textbanking for Amendment 4 every single day between now and the election. We can sign up to join their efforts here, here and here.
- VOTE FORWARD RALLY
Vote Forward volunteers have been working together since March to write *10 million* letters to voters – and they’re on the verge of reaching that goal! We can join them to celebrate their progress and start the final push for the mail deadline of October 29. The rally will go online on Sunday, October 27, 8–9pm EDT. Sign up to attend here.
- PHONE BANK FOR COLIN ALLRED TO BEAT TED CRUZ
On October 29, Texas Offense is hosting a virtual phone bank for Colin Allred who is in contention for Sen. Ted Cruz’s seat. There are two time slots on that day: 6-8 PM ET and 8-10 PM ET. They will be making calls to elect the Democratic ticket top to bottom! Training will be provided at the event. Let’s sign up here. We can also support these efforts by textbanking with the Texas chapter of the Human Rights Campaign here and the Texas AFL-CIO here.
- ATTORNEYS GENERAL AND SECRETARIES OF STATE ARE ON THE BALLOT
We’ve learned well over the last decade how much of a difference it makes to have pro-democracy, pro-reproductive rights, pro-LGBTQ rights, pro-climate action, pro-worker elected officials in statewide offices that usually don’t get much attention. This fall, there will be ten attorney general and seven secretary of state races on our ballots nationwide. While most of them are not expected to be competitive, these are elections where each bit of effort can make a big difference. Let’s consider donating to and volunteering with the Democratic Attorneys General Association, the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State, and candidates in key races like:· IN-AG, where Destiny Wells is running to unseat targeter of abortion doctors Todd Rokita· NC-AG, an open seat contest to succeed Josh Stein between Democratic Rep. Jeff Jackson and Trump coup co-conspirator Rep. Dan Bishop· NC-SOS, where longtime incumbent Democrat Elaine Marshall is defending her seat against Republican Chad Brown, who has focused on issues the job does not involve· PA-AG, an open seat race between Democratic former state auditor Eugene DePasquale and Republican district attorney Dave Sunday
- STATE-SPECIFIC ACTIONS
- ME – WE WANT BIG MONEY OUT OF POLITICS
We have a chance this month to strike a blow against the flood of corporate cash poisoning our political system. Maine voters are weighing in on Question 1, which if passed would limit contributions to super PACs working on non-federal races in our state to $5,000 per individual. While it is likely to be challenged in court if it passes, if it ultimately survives the legal battle it could open a whole new front in the battle for campaign finance regulation. We can sign up to volunteer with Maine Citizens to End Super PACS here.

- STATE SPECIFIC VOTER GUIDES
Jess Craven of Chop Wood Copy Water is amassing a document that lists trusted guides for every state that simply tells people how to vote. It is a work in progress and can be found here. Let’s use and share the list and offer our suggestions to Jess (hijesscraven101@gmail.com) if we know of others she can add to the list. (h/t Chop Wood Carry Water) - HELP WITH VOLUNTEER BLUEV
olunteer Blue is a new project of more than 30 different national and regional organizations who have come together to recruit, coach and train volunteers to work in the most important races across the country to elect Democrats. VB is focused exclusively on volunteers and volunteer experience. Some of our favorite activist groups are partners in this effort: DemCast, Indivisible, Field Team 6, to name a few. Through Volunteer Blue we can find the most important races and then find the critical opportunities to help with. Let’s sign up here.
- GOP BUILDING SURPRISE FIREWALL IN NEVADA: LET’S REVERSE IT
Democrats are behind in Nevada early voting, but there is still time for us to turn things around. We still have time to call, text or canvass Nevada voters and get out every vote we can. We can look here to find ways to call or canvass Nevada voters and win this state!
- DEFEAT LAUREN BOEBERT
Democrat Trisha Calvarese is working to be elected to the House of Representatives in Colorado District 4 and is running against Lauren Boebert.Lauren Boebert needs to go. Let’s see where we can volunteer in person or virtually.
- VOTING ASSISTANCE FOR OVERSEAS VOTERS
Vote From Abroad is offering live help in case we need assistance getting/returning our 2024 overseas ballots. We can check for support times and sign up for them here, or we can click the button on the page to send them an email with our questions.
- STATE-SPECIFIC ACTIONS ON VOTER INTIMIDATION
- AZ – REPORT ELECTION THREATS AND INTIMIDATION In Arizona, AUSA Sean Lokey has been assigned to monitor election threats and intimidation. He has provided his number to the public for any issues. We can call him at 602-514-7516.
- MI – KNOW OUR RIGHTS WHEN FACING ELECTION CHALLENGERSEarly voting began on Saturday. If we are voting early or going to the polls on Election Day, we might encounter election challengers. While they do have the right to be there, we voters have rights too, and the Michigan Secretary of State has made us a handout stating clearly what they can and cannot do. Some of the things challengers cannot do are speak or interact in any way with voters, threaten or intimidate voters or election workers voters, make indiscriminate challenges, touch ballots or election materials, or make video or audio recordings. We can take this list of what Election Challengers can and cannot do to the polls with us. We can also share copies of this with our Michigan friends on social media.
