Ways we can help get out the vote
Oct 24

- HARRIS/WALZ MAKES PHONEBANKING SIMPLE
Talking with voters one on one can make a powerful connection, and in these final weeks we need every voter we can get! The Harris/Walz campaign has made it very simple for us to help out, providing a page with links to specific information for every state, giving us the tools, training and support we need to be successful. Whether we are experienced phone bankers or just starting out, our calls can make a big difference today, using all the help and support given to us here. - A “MODERATE” WHO WON’T OPPOSE MASS DEPORTATIONS
A progressive Democrat has a real shot at taking down a name-brand incumbent GOP congressman in a suburban swing district in New Jersey. Sue Altman, a former teacher and activist running hard on reproductive rights and taking on corruption, is polling at a virtual tie with Rep. Tom Kean Jr, one of the Biden-district Republicans. She decisively beat him in a recent debate where Kean stayed dead silent for a full eight seconds after Altman pushed him to answer whether or not he’d support mass deportations. The Working Families Party is hosting phonebanks for Altman tonight and next Thursday. Let’s sign up to take part here.
TELL EVERYONE WHY YOU’RE VOTING FOR KAMALA
Want to take a brief break from voter contact? MoveOn has found short, authentic selfie videos on why we’re voting for Kamala Harris can be extremely persuasive to folks in our networks! They’re asking us to record quick videos to share with friends and family about what’s at stake this November. We can make our videos here.
LIVE PANEL ON WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE ELECTION
Democracy Docket is hosting a Zoom session on Tuesday, October 29 at 7PM ET to give a status update one week out from Election Day and preview what to expect during the post-election period, especially if things don’t go Trump’s way. Panel members will include Rep. Jamie Raskin, political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, and Democracy Docket founder Marc Elias. We can sign up here. (h/t Chop Wood, Carry Water)
PROJECT 2025: IMPACT ON UNION MEMBERS & WORKING FAMILIES
The AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education Treasury Fund has broken down what the Trump/MAGA/Project 2025 agenda means for union members and working families. Let’s explore here and let’s spread the word. Then, let’s block this deeply anti-worker agenda and make a plan to vote for union-recommended candidates on our ballot.
STATE-SPECIFIC ACTIONS
MA – TURN OUT VOTERS FOR THE BALLOT QUESTIONS
While our federal seats are securely blue, there’s still plenty of important questions on the ballot in Massachusetts next month – including increasing government accountability, expanding the right to organize to ride share drivers and raising the minimum wage for tipped workers. Progressive Massachusetts is organizing folks to vote yes on all five ballot questions. They’re hosting phonebanks to reach voters TONIGHT, Thursday, October 24th and again on Monday, October 28th. We can sign up to join these efforts here and here.
- WHITE DUDES FOR HARRIS
Progressive Victory hosts White Dudes for Harris organizing calls every Tuesday until Oct. 29 at 8 PM ET. These calls are opportunities to learn key organizing skills that are relevant to the campaign, learn about volunteer opportunities, and hear from guest speakers. Let’s sign up here. (h/t CFAA)
- MICHIGAN ONE CAMPAIGN PHONE BANKSIt is essential that the Dems win Michigan. Michigan Dems’ Michigan One Campaign hosts virtual phone banks contacting Michigan voters to get out the vote. We can call from anywhere. Each shift begins with training; experienced phone bankers will be able to start calling immediately and don’t need to sit through the training. There are shifts Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with training that begins at 2:00 PM ET and 5:00 PM ET. On Saturdays and Sundays they run their phone banks all day with training that begins at 9AM, 12PM, 3PM, and 6PM ET. Sign up for any & all shifts here. (h/t Amy Siskind)
- ENHANCE STUDENT VOTING IN SWING STATES
Swingthevote.us provides information and assistance to college students that can help them counteract election suppression barriers in getting to vote. Let’s send any students we know in swing states this 1-minute video that explains how important their votes are and encourage them to check out this state and college-specific portal that will make voting as easy as possible.
- TIPS FOR CANVASSERS
When we’re canvassing and a voter comes to the door and tells us they’re voting for Harris, let’s think of it as the beginning, not the end, of the conversation! Let’s ask them to volunteer; to urge their family and friends to vote for Democrats up and down the ballot; to put up a lawn sign; to vote early; and more. Let’s read “How to Talk to Democrats” from The Grassroots Connector and sharpen our canvassing skills.
- WISCONSIN PHONEBANKS WITH FIELD TEAM SIX
We all know how central Wisconsin is to both Vice President Harris’ and Trump’s roads to the White House. We’re firing on all cylinders to make sure we get every voter we can to the polls – both likely voters and unlikely voters alike! Field Team Six is hosting virtual phonebanks both this Wednesday and next Wednesday to reach unregistered likely Democrats and get them on the voter rolls. We can sign up to join their efforts here.
- MUSIC FOR ELECTION SEASON
A subscriber has created a “2024 Election – Playlist for Democrats” and we are sharing with permission. Enjoy the playlist on these platforms: Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube!
- PHONE BANK WITH CENTER FOR COMMON GROUND
We know that phone banking can be intimidating, but it can also be a really rewarding experience. Plus, we really make a difference when we get a voter on the phone! Center for Common Ground which educates and empowers voters of color in voter suppression states, offers guided phone bank training almost every day of the week where we can learn how to call with a community of folks. It makes the process more fun and less intimidating! Let’s check it out and choose where we want to help.
- PHONE BANK WITH PA DEMS
Pennsylvania is another essential state for a Dem win. PA Dems’ 2024 PA Victory is hosting phone banks daily through election day. Let’s sign up here.
- KNOW YOUR VOTING RIGHTS
The ACLU has put together a quick quiz on what to do if our efforts to vote are challenged at the polls. Let’s make sure to review this and share it widely.
- HELP PROTECT ABILITY TO VOTE”
Most organizers and activists focus on mobilizing voters to vote our way. Yet there’s another kind of volunteer work that is not so well known, but extremely important: protecting people’s ability to vote and to have their votes counted.” “In many battleground states, Republican state legislatures and election officials are using unscrupulous tactics to suppress the vote. Since January 2021, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, GOP activists have filed nearly a half million voter challenges nationwide. Volunteers working with VoPro Pros are intent on defeating GOP voter suppression.” We can read more about this work here and sign up to help here.
- PHONEBANK FOR BALLOT CURING
As this 2022 NPR report explains, hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots are often rejected, primarily because of minor errors made by voters. Many states allow voters to correct their mistakes so their votes can be counted. It’s called ballot curing. We can help voters cure their ballots by volunteering for a ballot-curing phone bank. Let’s sign up for a phonebank here.
