Jimmy Carter, 39th US President, casts his vote at 100 years old

We are already learning what it looks like to have freedoms taken away

Good News for Georgia Voters!

Last Tuesday morning, the Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled that county election officials in Georgia have a “mandatory fixed obligation to certify election results.”

While a ruling is still pending in a separate case that requires local election officials to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” into election results before certifying them, McBurney stated in his ruling that while local superintendents have an obligation to “investigate concerns about miscounts,” such concern “is not cause to delay or decline certification.” McBurney stressed that issues over potential election fraud or abuse can be raised by superintendents or others through post-certification court challenges known as “election contests.” County election officials face a statutory deadline to certify the election results by November 12 this year.

Furthermore, Judge McBurney also ruled on Cobb v. Georgia, which challenges six rules recently adopted by the State Election Board, including a rule requiring a hand count of ballots that would go into effect midway through the early voting period. Judge McBurney concluded that it is too close to the election to make a change like this and enjoined the hand count rule from going into effect for this election.

Election Resources

Have questions about voting?

The Michigan Voter Assistance Hotline (833-648-6837) is a wonderful resource supported by the Michigan Democratic party and made available a few months before each election. Though the majority of callers are Democrats, it is available to all voters regardless of party affiliation. Staffed by trained volunteers, a backup staff is on the ready for complicated issues. If people call the Hotline and no one answers, they can leave a message and their call will be returned.

Common questions fielded by the Hotline are in regard to absentee ballots, registration status, and poll locations. But hotline volunteers provide accurate, up-to-date voting information on as many issues as possible.
