Here’s our voting guide!
OK, so we were over-ambitious about getting the voter guide out last Friday!
Indivisible Ventura’s Voting Guide for the 2024 Presidential Election

You can use the links to jump to the exact race or proposition you’re trying to figure out for your ballot.  Or you can pour yourself some coffee and scroll through the pages, and just be amazed at what’s going on in our county.

Putting together our voting guide is a meditative process. We watch the patterns of the endorsement blocks emerge – either partisan walls or the random splashes of personal friendships or common cause.

There’s are patterns in candidates too – this year, we have several who’ve never bothered to do a lick of public service on a local level. However, upon reaching their later years, they believe that they deserve an official title with a office before they really retire. (It’s even more tempting now that SCOTUS has ruled that graft is OK as long as it’s received after service, like a tip.)

The patterns are consistent for the Conejo Valley School Board races – they generate so much drama that they needed their own page. Simi’s races, with similar hard-right candidates trying to slip into every school seat, come close.

There are also some unexpected surprises – such as the explosive reveals over at the United Water Conservation District.

There is sheer jaw-dropping disbelief – check out Larry A. Thompson’s NSFW section in his race against Congressman Brad Sherman.

And as usual, there are races where we must choose between friends.

But we’re breaking one pattern. We’re not just asking you to vote. We’re asking that you not to vote in anger.

No matter how upset or betrayed you may feel with any aspect of our imperfect political system – that there are only two parties, that a politician hasn’t been able to keep a promise, that wars and pipelines still occur, that gas prices aren’t cheap enough – we’re asking that you do not use your vote, or worse, refusal to vote, as a “statement,” or to hold some legislator “accountable.”

Every day, we are surrounded by people who are terrified that we are so blinded by discontent, that we won’t do what is necessary to save them from harm or erasure by the dystopian threat of Project 2025 until it is too late.

Your vote is your power. Donate it to them.

Vote for love!

(We’re repeating these next two notices, because we want you to share them!)

There’s an disinformation war being waged against Spanish-speaking voters. Share information about Project 2025 in SPANISH!

We have done a lot of work on Project 2025. But our work, and that of most campaigns targeting this democracy-killing manifesto, is not reaching the Spanish-speaking community. Even worse, multiple disinformation campaigns are targeting Latino voters. This community has the right to know about Project 2025’s plans for schools, Head Start, health care and other important topics for their families BEFORE THEY VOTE!

We’ve consulted Stop the Coup 2025‘s neat chapter compilations many times, but now, they are offering their work in six languages!

Please! Share this website, in EnglishSpanish, and in several other languages, with friends and family and ask them to pass it on as well.

CALIFORNIA, DO SOMETHING NOW!

Here’s the truth: this election will be decided by a handful of voters in a few key states. We’re counting on you to talk to the voters who will ultimately decide if Kamala Harris becomes our next President.

This week, the most important things you can do to help us win are: host an event for volunteers in your area and call voters!

Please DONATE to the cause!
Indivisible Ventura is completely volunteer run and your donation will support the direct costs of organizing in Ventura — things like expenses for Swap Meet Justice, posters, art supplies, stamps, transportation, and more! Although we defeated Trump in 2020, we lost the House and and just barely took back the Senate. We have to act urgently to save our democracy and enact other desperately needed reforms. Getting it done depends on all of us. Let’s stand together, indivisible. Indivisible Ventura is one of 6,000 grassroots Indivisible groups across the country. Together, we will win. The usual caveats…

  • Keep ahead of us on our calendar scroll here: tinyurl.com/VC-calendar
  • If we screw up a link, our apologies. You can find the original post here: tinyurl.com/VC-calendar
  • We’re putting up information on local protests and actions by others we’re finding from informal sources.
  • These listings are not endorsements nor guarantees as to time/place/type of protest or participant safety. Events can and have already been cancelled without notice.
  • Check ahead for future events there as well. We often miss morning event postings and these newsletters are often tardy as hell.
  • If we screw up or miss information about an event, please send an email to indivisibleventura@gmail.com
