Ways we can help get out the vote

Oct 16

  • HELP FLIP THE HOUSE THROUGH OUTREACH TO MODERATE WOMEN
Three groups are working on a few key races in California that could flip the House from red to blue. Airlift provides funds to local groups across the country that engage in outreach at the grassroots level within their communities. They are working with Galvanize Action and Communities for a New California to especially reach out to women on the issues of reproductive rights in California’s Central Valley, where there is a strong chance that three seats can be flipped. Let’s find out more about these organizations and sign up here for a call tomorrow, Thursday October 17, on how to get more involved.
  • PHONE BANK TO RE-ELECT SEN. SHERROD BROWN
It is imperative that we keep the Senate. Sen. Sherrod Brown (OH) is one of our most effective and beloved senators.  He is in a tough race against his GOP opponent.  We can join the Ohio Democrats on Zoom to call voters for Sen. Sherrod Brown and the Democratic ticket.  Times are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 PM – 6 PM ET and 7 PM – 9 PM ET.  We can sign up here.

  • LET’S VOTE FOR CANDIDATES WHO SUPPORT GUN SAFETY
The anti-gun violence organization Everytown for Gun Safety has a campaign called Gun Sense Voter that makes it easy for us to look up which candidates on our ballot support gun safety legislation and policies. Let’s use their search tool to find our 2024 gun sense candidates and then vote accordingly.

  • BALLOTPEDIA’S 2024 VOTER TOOLKIT
The nonpartisan voting encyclopedia known as Ballotpedia offers a Voter Toolkit. The toolkit covers all kinds of voting information, from basics like looking up what’s on our ballot and checking our state’s election day  polling hours, to geekier stuff, like who is serving as key staff on each presidential campaign. As we make our voting plans, let’s consult  Ballotpedia’s Voter Toolkit.

  • HELP UNDECIDED VOTERS LEARN ABOUT CANDIDATE POSITIONS
We all know people who want to know more about a candidate’s position on the issues before they vote. Let’s send them to nonpartisan  guides.vote for English- and Spanish-language information on federal and high-level state races. The concise explanations of candidates’ positions are organized by issues such as the economy, immigration, abortion, taxes, voting rules, and more. Links lead to additional information and sources. The guides are written and edited by journalists and experienced communicators who provide impartial, factual, well-sourced information.  Guides are also available as downloadable pdfs. Let’s check it out here.

October 15, 2024 – 20 Sleeps To Go!

  • VOTING WHILE UNHOUSED
We do not need to have a permanent place to live to be able to vote. If we are homeless, or between homes, or we move around a lot; if we work in agencies that provide services to unhoused people: let’s consult this guide from the federal government and make sure that we are able to vote in this fast-approaching election.

  • AUTHORITARIAN TACTICS THREATENING ABORTION INITIATIVE IN FLORIDA
Trump and DeSantis have been pushing hard to defeat the effort to protect abortion rights at the ballot box in Florida – DeSantis has even used his power to threaten TV stations to get them to pull ads for it. Ominously, their authoritarian tactics may be having some effect. New polling suggests the yes vote is falling well short of the 60% required for Amendment 4. But we’ve beaten the forced birthers before and we can do it again. The Yes on 4 campaign has multiple phonebanks, textbanksand canvasses running in the next few weeks. Let’s sign up for a shift here.

  • JOIN THE WEST WING CAST IN SUPPORT OF SEN. BOB CASEY (PA)
Virtually join cast members Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Richard Schiff, Dulé Hill, and Mary McCormack, Senator Bob Casey, and special guests tonight, October 15th at 8 PM ET for a night of games, performances, and conversation about the stakes of this election.  Let’s sign up here

  • TALK TO THE NEIGHBORS
“Neighbor2Neighbor, a project of Indivisible, is the most impactful and easiest way to make a difference this election – by talking to our own neighbors! Indivisible is deploying this innovative, relational door knocking program to knock 200,000 doors in battleground races in 2024.  It’s going to take neighbors talking to neighbors to fight back against MAGA extremism and secure our rights. When we sign up, within minutes, we’ll be sent a list of names, a short script, best practices, and a printout with voting information to bring with us to the doors. Then we’re all set to start having conversations with our neighbors, whenever is convenient for us. We can sign up for as many doors as we want after our first 10.” This is not available in every state or neighborhood, but we can sign up or find out other ways to help.  Let’s check this out here.
