Distributing the Voter Guide is WCDP’s largest and most important get-out-the-vote effort!
We need a whole lot of volunteers to walk “turfs” – that’s a list of addresses. Each turf takes about 2 hours, depending on the size. You won’t be knocking on doors, and the addresses are for Democratic-leaning voters.

ICYMI – Dem Wins for Michigan

Michigan Battery Production Poised to Power the Country’s Future

Michigan’s innovative battery industry powered by dedicated workers is getting an upgrade thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow helped enact in 2021. With $355 million in federal investment, the state will boost production of advanced batteries and battery materials. Michigan’s battery manufacturing sector is vital to strengthening the country’s electrical grid, while also ensuring American homes and businesses have the power they need to thrive.

“The Michigan ethos is embedded in America’s industrial fabric, and the Biden-Harris Administration is deepening that proud manufacturing legacy,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm (a former Michigan governor). “Thanks to the Investing in America agenda, Michigan is poised to see over $1 billion more in public-private investment creating hundreds of new jobs for workers across the state who are essential to ensuring our national energy security.”

Thanks to our Democratic Senators for creating good-paying jobs and making sure Michigan leads the way to a clean energy future.

Michigan House Democrats Deliver for Kids

Supporting public education is a strong Democratic value, and Michigan legislators are delivering for our kids! Michigan House Democrats passed House Bill 5503, which provides resources for school safety and mental health, as part of a suite of education-focused legislation enacted by Democrats. The bills also include provisions for school meals and enhanced teacher retirement funding.

“As a teacher-turned-legislator, I saw firsthand the effects of years of under-funding in the classroom,” said state Rep. Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth), chair of the House Education Committee. “Our fiscal 2025 education budget freed up hundreds of millions of dollars that schools can put back into the classroom. Today, we’re making that change permanent.”

This year’s budget gave Michigan schools an average of $400 more per pupil than last year. Thanks to all the Michigan House Democrats who keep Michigan schools going strong!

Barns for Harris/Walz!

Do you have a barn, or know of one we could paint on?

Beautiful red barn under a bright blue sky, near Ann Arbor
Back in 2008, there was an unofficial “Barns for Obama” thing going on. How about “Barns for Harris” this year?  The paintable space needs to be on the lower part of the barn that’s visible from the road.

If you don’t have a barn, how about a good location for a really big sign?

A good location might be on a county road between, say, Dexter and Chelsea, or between Chelsea and Manchester, or on main roads into Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor. We’ll make 10 double-sided Harris signs, 4’x6′. With stands and hardware they cost $32 to produce — but we’ll give them away too.

Seeking Social Media Volunteers using TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X/Twitter!

We’re looking for volunteers to help us promote MIvoter.org, your one-stop shop for personalized voting, candidate, and Dem endorsement info statewide. Check out a working version at MIvoter.org using a Washtenaw County address. We need:

  1. Volunteers who can help maintain MIvoter.org accounts on FB, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. A volunteer will get on the accounts twice a day, maybe a total of an hour, to do the basics: post, like, follow, reply, and purge (trolls and the like). Experience posting on these platforms is important, experience using a social media management platform like HootSuite or Buffer a plus. Hope to have a group of several volunteers doing this.
  2. We’re also looking for volunteers to help us identify pro-democracy social media influencers (individuals and organizations) with lots of followers who can help us reach voters throughout Michigan.

Please contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@washtenawdems.org
