Clean Energy Future Legislation Delivers on Job Growth Promises
Consulting firm 5 Lakes Energy reported on the Democratic-led Michigan legislature’s package of policies and goals to support Michigan’s transition to clean energy, which was passed last November. The report found investments in clean energy are creating strong job growth throughout Michigan and across the U.S. energy sector.
“Our historic Clean Energy Future legislation has positioned Michigan as a national leader in the fight against climate change, reducing household utility costs and safeguarding our air, water and public health, while creating good-paying jobs for people. This report proves that prioritizing clean energy isn’t just good for the environment – it’s also a powerful boost for our economy and American workers,” state Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) said in a statement. Shink sponsored one of the bills in the November package.
Looks like clean energy isn’t just good for the environment … it’s good for the economy!

Down With the Dumps! – Democrats Question New Radioactive Waste Shipments
Radioactive waste is being dumped in Wayne County without a clear process to notify local officials, and Democrats are doing something about it. Wayne County Executive Warren Evans said that 6000 cubic yards of waste contaminated with low-activity radiation is scheduled for disposal this fall. U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI-06) questioned the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers about its safety and risk management measures.
U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) highlighted Republic Services’ record of violations at facilities where the waste will be stored. Although Republic responded with mitigation efforts to the violations, residents’ concerns prompted the Romulus City Council to craft a resolution asking federal officials to change the process. State Rep. Reggie Miller (D-Van Buren Twp.) introduced legislation barring radioactive waste dumping in Michigan.
Thanks to Democrats for getting to the bottom of these developments.
Democratic Lawmakers Advocate for Stronger Protections for Michigan EldersSenators Veronica Klinefelt (D-Eastpointe), Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing), Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores), and Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor) introduced Senate Bills 922-925 to better protect those who are unable to protect themselves because of advanced age or a mental or physical impairment. The bills are currently receiving testimony in committee.
“Elder abuse and exploitation is a serious issue facing our state, threatening the safety and security every Michigander deserves,” said Sen. Hertel. “This legislative package serves as a critical step towards justice for our elderly community, sending a clear message: we will not tolerate abuse at any time, and we will relentlessly pursue those who take advantage of our most vulnerable citizens.”
The bills extend existing protections by strengthening penalties for those found guilty of elder abuse, developing programs to bolster prevention efforts for financial and fraud exploitation, and establishing easier reporting methods so Michigan seniors can receive the protection they deserve.
